"He was boinking this girl that was boinking another guy at the same time and discovered this...on the morning of the gig... My advice is never allow a band member to have a menage a trois on the day of the gig, unless he invites you. In all seriosity your bass player is a dickbrain and you need to get another one. I can't understand people putting up with so much B.S. It boggles my mind. I know you want to keep a band together and have gigs lined up but life is too short to put up with B.S. I absolutely, possitively don't allow personal problems to screw up the band. Especially if its one member screwing up over and over again. It's not worth it. YOUR reputation is on the line. Don't mess with it...

The guy sounds like a "drama-queen", & needy. Wants to know you need him whether he shows or not. Psycological problems. Also's got mixed-up priorities (his sex-life) and needs to be straightened out with straight-talk, -logical talk.
"The show must go on". (no matter what); The Entertainers' Creedo, unless it's REALLY life-or death! No excuses. Check the hospital to see if his daughter was really there. That'll give you firm ground to stand on.

Check the Hospital?

Read the privacy act. The hospital employees who are in the know wont even tell you if you are in the hospital.

That privatised information could get you a felony conviction.

My standarized answer is "I appologize Sir, but the polaticians you elected wont allow me to discuss your family's health care needs."

I've called hospitals before to check when someone is way over-due worried that they might have been in an accident. I guess they wont release info if the person has already been released? Or the laws have changed?

Never had a problem with asking if someone is in Hospital at all. Maybe its my voice, heck I dunno but I've visited many people in one and haven't been turned away for that info. After all they are not releasing client info, that is what the front desk is for.

For my tuppence I think that you feel getting someone else in might ruin stability? It does of course. I'd talk to the guy down to Earth like and get some first hand info myself.

Hope his daughter is ok.

You pretend to be officer so and so from the local state trooper barracks.

I never got hospital info that way, but we did track a local guy who stole a car to the airport that way.

(they just get scared and give you what you ask for) lol

So log out and go somewhere else more to your excitement, septic.
We talk about relavent topics here, some interesting, some not. Go! Get Out! Go somewhere else. Maybe a porno site or something would be more to your amusement.

Go figure.

A BAND IS A GROUP OF MUSICIANS THAT CAN MAKE MAKE MAGIC HAPPEN.
SOMETIMES FOR ONLY ONE SHOW.
TO BUILD THAT INTERREACTION TAKES SO MUCH MORE THAN PLAYING A CHORD OR A RIFF.
SAD WHEN THINGS DON'T WORK.

J,
There has been so much excellent input on this subject, that I'm not sure I can give a valid heartfelt opinion. I'm kinda leaning toward Rat's first response, however, JimmeyD counters with a good opposing view. I guess the best advice I can muster is based on how committed, professionally speaking, your current band is. If you're booking the gigs, and acting as bandleader, then its obvious that you owe it to the other band mates, as well as the people you are contracting gigs with,to take whatever action necessary to fulfill your commitments.

In other words, Howlin is sayin: You wear the pants in the band!
