I downlaoded and started playing with FL8. I'm currently using Audacity to do some basic recording. Problem is, I'd like to integrate the two into the following work-flow:

1. Record a rythm to a click track
2. Import the rythm into FL8, and loop the rythm portion so i can add drums over that section that match/emphasize what I'm doing on my guitar.

Is this doable using those two in tandem, or am I trying to climb a wall with no ladder? How would go about doing this? Do I need to invest in a total recording suite to do this?

In Audacity, to save a wav file, you export it to a folder. Then you can just open it in FL8, I think. I don't have FL8. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply. The issue isn't so much importing/exporting, it's syncing the two so that the click track from the exported file syncs with FL8's click ~100 bpm.

If both programs are on the same PC, don't they run on the computer clock, or do they each have their own? I never have messed with syncing yet.

Yeah, they do. Problem is syncing them to each other so they both beat on the same tick.

So let's say I create a click track at 100bpm then export that file. It looks like so: (x's are beats, 0's are silence).

x o x o x o x o

Now FL8 is set to the same 100bpm. it's ticks are like so

X 0 X 0 X 0 X 0


so i import my wave into FL8.
Problem is, how do I line up the first X?

x 0 x 0 x 0 x 0
X 0 X 0 X 0 X 0

Looks great on paper, but FL8's interface and lining up wav files with it's tick is confusing to me. I haven't been succesful yet - but again, I'm new to FL8 and it's pretty daunting to work with for the first time.

In any case, this is probably a moot point since I just purchase Cubase Studio 5 - I read up on an article that can run FL8 as a VST in process and tehreby line up the tracks - but it also has a drum machine with some timeline editing features so not sure I need FL8 at this point.

Still worth an answer should someone else have the same question, but not critical for me now.

just a guess but I'd bet you could make a midi click track in either one and set it as the master timepiece... exactly where and how... not sure. As I recall i've synced fl with cakewalk this way.




afa just lining up a wav... your prob is that there is a button on the top of your screen that selects the 'precision' at which you can place items. you can set this to quarter notes, 16ths, 32nds etc. you can also set it to nothing and it will allow you to move the track with infinite precision... the prob with this is it's tuff to line up a track just righ... so set it back to 1/4 notes and you'll be fine. (hope this helps)
