Hi,

About a year ago I had an idea. I wanted to give artists the possibility to perform live, in front of a real audience, through the Internet.

I have been a musician for the last 15 years, and I know how difficult it is for non-professional to gather enough people to book a concert.

Although this Website is not indented to replace a face to face contact with an audience, it allows musicians to feel a crowd with cheers and applause. It gives artists a new environment to perform, with the simple use of a webcam.

We have just brought the Website online. At this point, my main goal is to reach artists for comments, feedback or suggestions on our application. And maybe you can try it out!

Sincerely
The website is http://www.stageyourself.com

Are you really interested in a reply, or just spamming every musician site on the interwebz?

This is the third site I've seen this exact same post on....

Sorry, but it just seems like cyber-sex to me...kinda sad & empty &...well..."dirty" & empty & sad & sick & useless to anyone who works on his/her craft

If you can't get an audience with your live performance, you need to work on your stuff until you can get one

This is just more crap that will deliver the lowest common denominator to the masses & call it "art" & I will have no part of it...I'd just as soon buy an Andy Warhol print of a tomato soup can

How will this further anyone's musical ambitions, is the real question

I can't for the life of me see how this is in any way a useful endeavor

We do stage yourself at least twice a month. It's called band reherasal. You're all invited to attend in person next time you happen to visit Kansas City. We just need an R.S.V.P.

I don't mean no disrespect, yet for me anyways, music isn't about fame and fortune. I've always known I was a musician before I ever learned how to sing or play an instrument. Singing keeps me happy, regardless of who is listening. I started solo singing in churches or with family, peoplel who knew me well, and I knew wouldn't judge me. I was told and encouraged by those people to take my music to others so they might be blessed as well. I was scared as hell to face someone I didn't know. Growing up, I went through alot of judment from my dad about how I looked and dressed. So, I wasn't very confident in myself.
When the internet came to my house, I was in heaven. Here was a way for me to actually meet people without having to see them face to face. I started playing my music for others online through a website called 'paltalk' I didn't own a cam, all I had was my voice, my music and a mic. I was involved in this for 4 years. It built my confidence, to the point to where I am now. And I Praise God! for that! For it is by and for HIM that I do the things I do, and if others are blessed in the process, Glory to God.
 I don't know now, 'stage yourself' sounds like it could be a good website, it just needs some work that's all. I might check it out again after it's been online awhile.

Look, either you're a performer or not.

If you have stage fright, I would think that this would be as bad as working in a television studio in front of the cameras, so I honestly don't see it as a way to overcome those problems. The only way I know of to overcome stage fright is to do it - by getting on stage if front of ppl. Face your fear & do it, or stay in the background, if that's where you truly think you belong.

It takes a lot of chutzpah to perform, whether you're doing it live or like this guy wants you to do it.

The problem with his way of performing is that there cannot be that interpersonal connection with your audience, that personal touch, which is such an integral part of one's performance. You don't get that rush you get when you've made that connection. The audience is cheated out of the essense of who & what you & your art are.

Where's that infectious thrill passing between the ppl sitting beside each other when they watch these things? Where's that feeling of accomplishment when the audience applauds your effort? Where's that magical moment when you take your bow, knowing that you've reached ppl, touched them in a very primal way? There's a lot more to a performance than just YOU, the performer. This o/l sh*t removes half of your performance, by taking the audience out of the picture, & making you look at the text to see your reviews. It's impersonal, & as such, makes whatever you're doing so much less than it could be, had you done it in front of ppl instead of a mere cam. There's a certain magic that goes through an appreciative audience, & if you haven't experienced it, I cannot explain it to you. It's akin to "mob mentality," in a way. Everyone sitting there feels it, as it flows through them, from person to person, like an electric current. Live performance is a total physical experience for everyone involved, not just the performer!! That is how I can relate it to o/l masturbatory cyber sex. It makes so little sense to waste your time like this! This sort of thing is designed for the egocentrics who think they don't need ppl, the narcicists among us who cannot relate to ppl. It is NOT for true performers!

You may as well just record videos instead of performing for ppl. Your tracks can be perfect, & all ya gotta do is lip-synch.

I see no disrepect in your posting your opinion.
But I stand by mine. It's not about fame, it is about the connective energy between humans. I learned to feel the prescence and intent of others through Kung Fu. I also learned that fear is a Tiger. It can and will eat you. OR You can ride him to victory.
I choose to ride, no matter how uncomfortable it makes me.
Thats why I play in the shirt my wife bought me. It reminds me why I am there..
Tracy, dont think it was easy for me to make contact with you, or anyone.
I am no extrovert. I would make a better Mountain Man than Musician.
Meeting and greeting new people is WAY out of my comfort zone.
But, to quote Jake Blues:
"We are on a mission from God"

No disrespect meant here, but art (in all it's forms) is subject to judgments, without such judgments, or "critiques" let's say, nobody would know the difference between a good or bad song, or a good or bad musician.

I understand your apparent discomfort with performing in front of strangers, but with art, much like anything else in life, the world needs filters, and quite frankly, it's not fair, but something has to separate the cream from the crap. You either believe in your music or you don't.

Stagefright / nervous disorder is a whole different story, and myself and many others here have had our bouts with it, but sites like the OP has put together just give a bunch of hacks, who really shouldn't leave a garage, a platform to spew their crap into the world. Too many posers and crappy bands already have done that. It's half the reason the general public isn't interested in 'new acts' anymore IMO.

Hi again,

Thanks to all for your comments, good or (mostly) bad ;-)

And no, Kramerguy, it's not because I post this message to 3-4 forums that i'm a spammer.

I admit that I was surprise by some responses about this website competing with LIVE performances in a club. Let me repeat again, this website was never intented to replace real human performances in a club. It just tries to emulate the feeling a little.

I did a performance 2 days ago, and it's been years since i have played or done a show, I was really scared. And I realise I had to improvise between songs, etc...My point is that it's one step up to playing by yourself. It's better practice than to just play in the mirror. You get a little stress.

And also, it's supposed to be fun. I get it. Lots of people will hate it. They just don't have to go to the Website. Why bashing it?

But I tried it, and the feeling when only 10 people applause and cheer, or when in the middle of a song, I heard some cheer, it gave me a little thrill. Never like a real show, but still...

It's a new experience. Some will like it, some not.

Thanks again, and I will try to correct the bugs you mention

Regards

Daniel
