Lemonrock is quite good as it's one of the first places poeple go to look for the latest gigs

I've found that facebook isn't really band friendly. If you are looking for old friends and classmates, it's fantastic, but really myspace still seems like the go-to place for band info.

And why not? It's got a gig schedule, bulletins, customized layout capability, private messages, friends, etc.. I honestly can't think of anything that I could add to enhance it, and the simple fact that it's as much as a social networking site as it is a fansite for bands, makes it even that much better. Even bars now ask for a myspace address before booking you. Myspace in many circles has been able to replace expensive "press kits".

I've seen so many "band" promotion sites pop up, literally dozens recently, but the reality is that they are only attracting other bands. Many of them claim to have millions of "listeners" but that's a crock.

Why would anyone NOT want a myspace page?

lol Phil.

@star_drummer: Of course there are! Google is your best friend in that case. Just do a little looking around on your own, see what you like. Join if you like it, move on to the next one if you don't. It's that simple.

And yeah, Facebook is not that great for bands. It's a pain to use my band's Facebook page, so I almost never do.

Hi All

Over the past few weeks I have been searching for musician community websites, mainly free ones!! Found a site called Musician Web at www.musicianweb.net which is totally free, it was just good to view profiles without having to signup.

I think they have just started up, so have few members at the moment, but the administrator was great. I suggested they added a new function in the classifieds regarding the dates to make selecting easier. They did it same day!!

If anyone has anymore suggestions on free musician/band type websites, let me know. I'm getting quite addicted!!

most of those sites are really nothing more than bandmix-lite though, offer free profiles and stuff, without the match-making feature. In essence, the only people who really see your profile are other musicians (ex. musicians forest). Really best to keep it to just a few like bandmix, myspace, and at least with myspace, you have the added benefit of fans.

None of those sites actually have "promoters" reviewing music, although many make such outlandish claims.
