To whom this might apply... I am in dire need of trying to get a band to play at a benefit I am wanting to have, to help raise monies for our homeless shelter. I have the place/the time but... NO BAND! Help!
The place is at a local Sports Bar & Grill, in Mattoon, Illinois and I have a date of April 19th. (on a Sunday) from 1 p.m. to 5p.m. This will also be a "Families with children Welcome" type of atmosphere. I am looking to find a band to play for just 2-3 hours. Although I cannot offer to pay any money, I could probably arrange it at our next board meeting to perhaps pay you from a small percentage(10% earnings?) of what is taken in at the door? We are wanting to charge a $5 or $6 cover charge. If this sounds like something that you would be interested in helping us out with, , please e-mail me at soyjoy2003@yahoo.com with your bio, etc. There were several bands around Champaign, and Charleston, Il. and other surrounding areas listed on here. Are any of you interested in playing perhaps? The drive to Mattoon really wouldn't be that bad....My next board meeting is April 2, so I really need to have something by then. We will also be responsible for providing all kinds of advertisements (radio,t.v. newspaper, etc) to publicize this event. Please let me know as soon as possible, if interested. Thanks for your time.

sounds like a charity noob. Feel kinda of sorry for them. They will get the hang of it someday.

To the OP... Don't say it's unpaid, then start negotiating pay in the next sentence. Most bands understand charities are unpaid... and taking money for playing them is a double edged sword. Try instead to offer them accommodations like free meals, drinks, anything else to cater to the band without having to take from the charity.

good luck

Hell, man - they're feeding the hungry . . .
I'd do it for nothing.
