J-HALEY, you hit the nail on the head there. As I had said before, I had been doing the 3-piece thing for years and loving it. Last year I was in a 6-piece band, but it wasn't a serious thing...just played a few gigs and parties. But, I was definitely spoiled after that and so, the next band I put together will be at least 4-piece.

I've done solo, two piece (acoustic) 3 piece, 4, 5 and 7. Yep. 7 musicians onstage, 5 were good lead or harmony singers. My favorite is 3 piece. If I can find a guitar player that will cooperate instead of the constant loudness battle and ego friction I like a 4 piece pretty well, or 4 piece with keys. Keys just add loads of texture if you can get someone who knows how to play the damn things...

In AEROS, it's just me on guitar and a drummer right now, but we're still looking for members.

Yeah, I gave up on volume wars years ago, but unforturnately non of the other guitar players I know have. As for keyboard players, if the can play some other instrument (acoustic guitar, tamborine, MORE COWBELL) it's great, but I've been in bands where the guy only played keyboards and thought EVERY song needed them. Uh uh!

I have played in a few quintetets and quartets; they are why I still prefer trios. We just didn't mesh well; too many working parts will make a machine breakdown faster then a simpler device. That's been the case for me and bands. Trio projects seem to have more longevity for me. I hear you guys on the lush sound though. You do get used to it and miss it some when it's gone. But then you (me) remember how much happier you are w/ out having to argue all the time. And I'm a pretty adventerous guitarplayer...I find a second guitar to often act like an "anchor"(which is good and bad)...It ain't a lead guitar thing either...I would LOVE to beable to have a Duane/Dicky relationship w/ another guitarist, or a Beck/Page (not much of the yardbirds recordings feature both-but the stuff that does! WOW!) I just haven't found that guy or gal yet....

I did have one "big" band that worked. An acoustic project that featured 2 guitars, 2 conga players who dealt w/ other percussion too, a female singer, myself and the other guitar player singing too, and a standup bass for about half of the gigs we did. It was a circus, but one w/ no negative competition; it worked well.

I don't know if they still use two drummers now. Might have to search Youtube to see some of their older stuff.

I dunno, I wouldn't mind playin with two drummers would give me more flexibility as a bassist, and if one of the drummers could sing then I'm not sure we'd need anyone else hahaha guitarists be damned run some effects and a separate channel for the clean, set the amps up far enough and it'll sound like there are two people jammin
