dammit this is a list of the obscure who never got a lot of hyped or commercial success

1) by far Frank Zappa
2) Derek Trucks the only one who can even come close to Duane Allman
3) Buckethead the best thing Axl Rose and closet thing He could even come close to replacing Slash "not like it could have been done successful though"But I've watched clips and listen to some of his solo stuff
4) Izzy Strandlin although Slash always gets the credits 4 Guitars on early G"N"R Izzy was very under estimated not only for his Guitar playing but also his songwriting skills If Axl wants even a chance for more G'N"R glory he just needs to stick with the origanal line up.
5) Steve Miller hmmmmmmmmmmmmm visiting music "Professor" at Georgetown University nah Steve Miller who? lol
6)Jeff Healey- Jeff Healey Band even Stevie Ray Vaughn was impressed by him need I say more
If I had the time I could list 1000 of great guitarist who doesnt get much credit or much airplay

Buckethead is quite well-known, man. All the 10-year-old kids know him very well... not the same way they know Michael Jackson, ofcourse. They know him from Guitar Hero.

todd rundgren
jeff baxter
denny dias
robbie robertson
frank zappa (sort of overlooked at least in a commercial sense)
scott gorham
doyle dykes
tommy emmanuel
phil keaggy (omg what a guitarist)
floyd radford

i feel these people are overlooked as guitarist, not necessarily overlooked in all area of music, just specifically as guitarist.

One of my faves, to be sure. His style was eerilly close to David Gilmour's, sometimes. Other times he was much more energetic.

Close call, but I think Eddie beat him by a year or two. Eddie started working on it after seeing Jimmy Page doing hammer ons and pull offs on open strings and figured he could do the same thing but use his left hand fingers as a moveable bridge and do the hammers and pulls with his right hand. This was in '71. Stanley started working with tapping in his teens and he was 13 in '72. But other guitarists had been doing it since the early '60's.

I feel that Jim Root needs a little mentioning now. I'm not talking about his Slipknot stuff, mostly because Mick keeps stealing his thunder. I'm talking about his really good Stone Sour solos. Just listen to Come Whatever May and you'll know what I'm talking about. With talent like that, idk if Slipknot really deserves him or not. Mick pretty much showboats like they don't need Jim anyway.

Criss Olivia (Savatage), David T. Chastain, Jake E. Lee, Brad Gillis? (Ozzy-Speak of the Devil), the guy from Watchtower and the guy who did several Jag Panzer recordings, now with Megadeth...Can't think of either of their names at the moment.
