I guess Im brave today.

My band plays mostly hard rock, up tempo stuff. In other words we dont have many slow songs. So I got the idea to just write one myself. I recorded this tuesday night at our bassist studio.

Its on my player Save The Last Dance. If you make it thru to the solo, its simple but it is double tracked I did these two lines in one take each. Most of my guitar parts were done first take.

Anyway check it out. We havent put real drums on its a drum machine holding down the beat.

It is just what I would have expected from you, for some reason. It's a good rock ballad thingie. Might be a bit too long, except in a live setting.

Philby, I wrote and sang it. I dont know if you noticed but my bassist has one of those electric uprights and he used that for bass getting some neat slides in there.

Its too long, I feel commercial poppy songs should be in the 3-4 minute range and this one is 5 minutes long.

Thw whole idea was to write a slow song for gigs. I thought if you say a chorus over and over like that maybe it would stick in someones head. More than likely it will be like most of my own music, stuck on a shelf in the closet somewhere. One of these days I need to come out of the closet!

Simple song but I put a bunch of guitar punches in to give it texture, although its not mixed we did a lot of little reverb touchs to emphasize changes. I like that pro tools stuff its amazing what you can do.

Not bad, needs a bit of polish. On first listen, my first impression was the leads in the intro just didn't make it for me, you might want to tinker with that section a bit. The rest is good, seemed like it needed some more mixing, but you said it was a rough mix so you knew that already. Good sound on the guitar and bass, Seems I remember the vocals were a tad too hot, but maybe not, I listened to it last night around dark, and you know about us old farts and our memories...guess I'll have to listen to it again later.

Overall, good job, needs a bit of polish. Might just turn into a really good song with some work.

I was trying to come up with one of those little signature guitar riffs like WOnderful TOnight. The intro wound up being to long when I put the little string thingie on there. Mybe I should cut the intro back to 1 or 2 bars to speed the song up a little. Like I said this is a rough mix after laying out all my guitar parts. Maybe we can put a little more shine on it.

This song started as me just strumming an acoustic and recording the chorus vocals. We sat on it a few days and came back to it. I kinda hope our drummer will lay some real drums on it. I dont know if this fits the kind of stuff our singer likes to do.

It doesnt really matter cause to me writting songs and recording them is all part of practice. In case I ever get one of those big breaks and do some heavy duty recording I will be ready to just lay down my parts and get out of the way. If you listen close there are a lot of little subtle guitar parts happening that hopefully build some tension and release in the music.

A lot of guys I know just record what they can play live. Ive always thought live and studio are different worlds. Id hate to listen to something Ive done 20 yrs from now and wish I had put a little punch in that I didnt. I have tapes from college where I didnt and now I regret it. SO my advice in recording is to load it up with all you got. It could be the difference between a rock and a diamond!

Don't know f you should shorten it or not, I'll have to listen again, I don't remember if it seemed lengthy, just that the lead itself didn't seem to fit. I know it was a rough track, think I mentioned that before, but like I said, a little polish and it has the makings of a good song.
