When I was younger it was just for the women.

Then for a while I played for the money.

Then I played for musical reasons.

Now Im back to the getting laid part.

Music just runs in cycles dont you think?

People need to get a load of us and I need to get a load of money. Actually I do it for fun first and foremost. It's not my main source of income so it has to be fun first, BUT I take it very seriously. I'm never one to shlock a bunch of cover tunes together real quick and rush it out to the public. My burning desire is to put out a legitimate CD that people want to buy. I've been doing this long enough to believe I can and will do this very soon when the RIGHT people are involved. I can't do it by myself...

yeah, back to the question...

I do it for the love of music. Even when I thought I was doing it for the fortune/fame/loose groupies ... I didn't really know it, but it was a labor of love. Now.. lugging gear to gigs... practicing the same songs I never cared for, over and over.. well that part gets ponderous, but just letting loose and playing my ass off (like I did with that demo last night), well... nothing compares to that great feeling you get when you nail a great song.

I honestly play for the rush of it... Hell, Can't tell you how many gigs I've done for free and still walked off stage happier than a pig in sh¡t!!

Say what!!! you don't play for boobies? just kidding man I can relate to what you've said.

A race car needs a track to do its thing, a musician needs an audience to do his/her thing, without it both cars and guitars would be parked in the garage.

I agree with JW that music runs in cycles... in that what I want from playing guitar has been many, or at least, quite a few things over the years.

Yes the vibe from a live crowd is great when it goes well, but when it doesn't, dodging tomatoes gets less fun as you get older... with a stiffer back!

At 52 I love my guitar and what it brings me even more than I did at 18; but that can mean simply being alone with it playing as I watch the rain fall outside.
My lust for live gigs is long gone now, though I don't mind playing for a bunch of friends or a party maybe... but still those dreams of fame still niggle and tease, like that most perfect little woman who might still be somewhere out there waiting for you... but don't tell the wife!

At 52 I think I can play slightly fiddlier things than I played at 18; somewhere up ahead though the time will come when my already slightly arthritic knuckle joints start to slow my finger movement more, and where now I am inventing ways round the restrictions, one day I will find what I can play has started to receded like a slow ebbing tide.
I dread that day... will I be driven back onto the bass! To be just the guy who hangs around with a rockband again!

Reasurance needed across the pond!

I've played in metal bands for 12 years. My last band being the most professional (they are now signed by the way). We were all about getting to the next level... for me though... I always did it for the thrill of playing for an audience. After 5 years of drama and spending countless dollars and hours, I was over the stress of it. Mostly because I was still in it for the fun... (While still managing the band most of the time) and the work WAS fun for a long time.

After time it became such a burden that I had to quit. I play for me now.... I play with friends that like to play because it's fun! If it's not fun what's the point?!??!

Although... yes... I did get laid a lot when I was young just because I was a musician! Can't knock that!

For the rush!
For the love of music!

I will have to admit, though I dont like to, part of me would like some fame, and a little cash would be nice too.

I am an old married man. I can pretty much get some whenever I want. Music not withstanding.

When the Beatles 1st came out I was hooked. My (girl) friend lol we were 7 or 8.. cut out cardboard guitars and pretended playing. Shortly thereafter my parents got me a plastic Eminee guitar for Christmas. I havent stopped since. So I guess it was for the love of Rock. At least back then that was pretty heavy rock.. I dont play many gigs out anymore but the perks were good when I did 8)
