Hey Gang,
Ive given up on the boom box syndrome so Im lookin for a mp3 player to play my tracks when I do my solo show. Just wonderin if any of ya use one that has seperate folder allocations and is user freindly without having to download a bunch of software. One that would be easy to sind tunes quickly without much down time on stage. Ive got a little Nextar that a guy gave me but it runs all the tunes together. I have 200+ tunes and cant be scrollin all day tryin find what I want between songs. Ive heard some good things about the "SANSA". Bad thing they say is , ya cant replace the battery but not a word was said about "Charging it"????
Anyway, just like to hear what you guys use and your opinions.Im lookin to spend up to 100$

Thanks,
John

an ipod nano would do the job nicely, you can organize the songs into groups so that you can control exactly what songs are categorized and how. You do need to install the itunes software, but even the sansa and zune would require the same. I don't know much about the other two.

Kidd,

My band loaded our rack with a DJ CD player. We have cds with varietys of music on them to play between sets or whenever the rest of the band doesnt make it! HA HA

I like the CD format. We used to use a little Ipod unit but it kept discharging on us at the worst time. So our CD player is wired into the poower strip in our rack.

Sorry I couldnt help.

Oh yeah this cd player will play MP3 format so you could load up 5-6 hrs of music on a cd. Ive done this with Zeps whole catalog on one CD.

Kidd dont you know you are killing the music business with canned music.

CANNED MUSIC HE SAYS... ..Well, you obviously wasnt with me 90-93 (for the bulk of the tunes_)everyday from 8am -8am 24/7 in other words, creating these tracks.I busted my ASS for 3 yrs to get 110 tunes to start with and still use the same workstation to create new stuff and originals. It forced me to become a better keyboard player. I play everything you hear. I RARELY loop ..Most of the time you cant becuase this workstation is 1989 tech. and seperate sequences have to to be made from vrs to vrs chrs to chrs etc. I would think you would be proud of me for taking on such an endeavor? Now in all honesty, I cant play a SAX but everything else , I could play LIVE if there were 4-5 of me. Being a stickler for detail taught me so much about orchestration, layering, harmonizing, timing properties, You name it, I had to become better at it to make this work. Just wanted to defend my postion here and say these track are much more that drum loops, and pads, etc. They were created from scratch and physically played by me..
Thanks for the CD player Idea..I was tryin to get away from CD's but yeah , the battery deal on these lil dudes is definetly a CON..

Hey KIDD, you must have missed the post where I body slammed John for being a DJ. Joseph came in for the Coup De Gras.
We are a touchy lott sometimes.

If you figure out the best way to go about it, give me a heads up. I would like to do a little DJ myself between sets. Yea CD's are a pain in the arse unless you roll your own. John has a good idea. We have done it back on the fourth of July gig. A drag and click setup on a laptop would be awsome.
I am just not PC savy enough to pull it off.

Yeah , I dont think anyone yet understands exactly why I need the mp3 player..What I do , was done ALOT in the 80's and 90's.We were FEW, but we existed and worked hard to create a 5-6 piece sound. Actually playing all the tracks had to be done back then. I should have just ask for info regarding an Mp3 player period and not said what kinda of app. I needed it for. Hell, I could go back to casstte..Its more reliable . but "pitchy". Ya better be able to tune in 5-7 sec.

Kidd, I know exactly what you are talking about. My reference to canned music was as George said a reference to another post.

Once again Im still in CD land. The one we have we bought for $90 off ebay, its a DJ model. I really havent played with it much until this last weekend but getting out the manual it can actually store songs in it somehow. And as I said it will play MP3 formatted CDs. I have the Zep CD with all their studio albums on one CD. I think thats cool. You could structure 3-4 cds like this and be in business. Its a 4 space rack unit. I dont think I have a picture.

Just my 2 cents

I have a small Sansa mp3 player...It was about $60, came with a warranty, and holds 2GB of songs. Also has a memory card slot for extra space. I have a 2GB card in mine, and right now it has almost 500 songs, and still has about 600MB of free space.

It's very organized, and you can make what is called a "Go-List"...Which is basically a playlist. You put as many songs as you want in it, then just choose "Play Go-List".

It's cheap, but reliable, and less of a hassle than Ipods.

Hey Ryan ,
thanks for another testimonial on the SANSA..Theres cat over on the WV. board that REALLY loves his ans says EVEN I would understand how to use the B..Now one cat suggest an H2 or H4. When I looked at the specs, I didnt see a WORD about those being a "PLAYER".That would be killer if they did play, that would be the answer to ALL my troubles and Id get a good interface to boot..Man, I finally made over to a buddies house to burn the 4 CD's I need for my gig SAT. Those who've seen me go thru 3 computers, an unreliable Mp3 player, and bad VIRUS, and NOW a broke ass CD burner can understand WHY I just "Might"be alittle leary of another digital device. ..But when ya have shitty sh*t , I guess it will tell on ya.
Shitty sh*t is havin sh*t that was shitty before it got sh*t on by the sh*t that broke the sh*t out of it ..NOW THATS preeeeety Shitty...
