Jeremy Spencer was an awesome slide player. He was very traditional in values too.
Fleetwood Mac was one of the most prominent Blues Bands of the 1960s. If Y'all ever get the chance . . . give Shrine `69 a listen. "My Babiy's Sweet" great tune . . . all of it is !

And let us not forget...

Bonnie Raitt

She hung out with some of the master bluesmen years back, and she can slide with the best of them!

. . . ahhhh Bonnie Raitt . . . "Give It Up was one of my favorite LPs back in the early `70s . . . Jr. Wells, A.C. Reed, Willie Murphy . . . and Freebo on Bass . . . he brought up the backbeat on all of her old albums.

. . . Gary Rossington is an excellent slider player as well.

Carl,
I must confess that I was unaware of Sonny Landreth before reading your post. After checking out some of Landreth's playin' on You tube, I have to agree that he is in contention as the new king of slide!

For the benefit of the few guitar players on the forum who still think that a bottle neck is only something to suck beer out of, I offer this Landreth video. Check it out because besides playin' , he talks about some pretty interesting tecnique useing the slide and fingers simultaneously! Even you seasoned players might learn something.
I like to tune my Mustang to open E to noodle around. (I don't consider myself a real guitarest.)
