The same girl constantly tells me how AMAZING she is at singing "Wanted Dead or Alive" on Rock Band. Funny, I can sing that song pretty accurately, but it nearly blows out my vocal cords every time. And yet, this amateur (who doesn't even do Karaoke) can nail it no problem?

Now, for real, if her pitch is correct, she gets a high score. She doesn't need to be singing in the same key or with power/tone. If the game were like that, everyone would fail except for a handful.

Guitar hero is for wanna-be's that dont have the gutz to learn a real instrument and want instant stardom gratification, but how long before they tire of fake applause? hell the real bands that really make it tire of the real applause and stardom in just a few years usually and break up because of "artisic differences" or such.. say,.. that is fun to rant..

Let's play another game...all the gamers can bring their paintball markers-and I'll bring my 20 guage. we'll play a few rounds. After all, since what they are doing is "just like the real thing", they shouldn't have an issue with the rules, right?

I agree, it drives me mad. I was just reading the other day how The Beatles recorded their 2nd album in 12 hours!

Some people still do that. Frank Black (of the pixies) does. So did (does?) Niel Young.

Everything live, no overdubs , not even vocals. Very credible in my opinion.

I read about a program that will take a melody you give it, and then play whatever accompaniment you want to it. So say you sing mary had a little lamb, then select Beethoven (or Metallica/The Beatles/anyone), it will then write an accompaniment in the style of who you selected to a highly accurate degree.

My take on pop/electronic music is that it is business and not really music. The people up on stage and on the radio are creating a product and then marketing it. The level of success pop artists acheive is a function of their political and business skills: that is impressive. If you want to complain about/compete with that, work on your business skills.

My take on great players is that they're selling their performance. It doesn't matter what they play, just that it's impressive and it sounds great. The level of mastery of their instrument is impressive and gains them fame/money. Very worthy, very elite

Then there are composers, which I appreciate most. They write the parts that the great players perform. Without great composers there would fewer great players. A composer doesnt have to be the best piano player, but if he writes something amazing and unique, he has acheived something timeless.

We complain because any a$$hole can make a hit song, but really just because any a$$hole makes something that sounds like a hit song doesnt mean it will actually be a hit song. To make an actual hit one need have one of the three aspects: great marketing/business, performance, or composition skills. It will always be this way regardless of what autotune and computers can do. No use in complaining

That's very insightful. I don't think that all electronic music falls into that category, but I can definitely see where you're coming from with that (and your other points), and I agree with you.

I agree, my friend composes artistic electronic music and does a lot with alternate temperments, so there are definately exceptions.
