They upload videos of them playing ANY game. Trust me; I'm a gamer, myself. Not hardcore, but I like games. These videos are there to either help you out if you're stuck at one point or just a plain old show-off.

I'd rather have a 10 year old listening and enjoying a Zeppelin song that he's never heard before GH or RB.. and then the xmas after, he asks his parents for a real guitar.
I got no problem with that. What's yours?

Point taken.

My problem with it is that it promotes the thought that "any idiot can do it."

But when it comes time to actually LEARN to play the instrument, they discover that it's way more difficult than their lil game, & they drop it like a hot potato. Wasted time for the teacher, wasted money for the parent, and the kid is still wasting his time with the game & not learning any REAL skills, & why should they, anyway, if they can play at it with these great results?

I don't want the public at large to think that what I do is so easy that any child can do it. It belittles my years of hard work, & pisses me off.

Ppl need to know that this is a skill, not just something that any undeveloped semi-talented moron can go out there & perform for 3-4 hours & do well. You have to WORK at it. If you make music too easy, the music suffers, too. Look at the tripe that has come about with the advent of things like samplers & garage band & such. Why bother to learn to play a sax or a trombone or a bass if you can just push a few damned buttons & let the machine do it for ya? Where's the skill? Are we all gonna be like dinosaurs before it's all said & done? Will it all be computer generated stuff in the years to come? Where will the FEELING come from, when you've degenerated music into something that any 2 year old kid can "perform" with the proper equipment?

philby, look up metal by numbers, its true hahaha, no its not, but my brother told me he got rockband and only plays the drums on it cuz he still doesn't have any place he can put his non existent drum kit (sold it like 2 years ago) he says he's still practicing, now in the one time I've screwed around on a kit, the resistance of the drum skins and symbols, and the resistance from the bass drum seem pretty important, and he's played on a kit before albeit all he'd do was double bass blast for hours and hours on end till mom would yell enough but still he did it, and he's too stupid to see that its not really doing anything for him other then making him think he's still practicing, he's goin through the motions but not really producing anything, as for playin those "guitars" I tryed to once but it made my 'fretting hand' hurt in like a minute and a half, stupid game at least its getting exposure for good music like andragon said...and its amusing at a concert to see a tournament happen while the real guitar hero's are on stage

i dont think there is that much wrong with guitar hero though(or rock band).

My only pet peeve is that all of my mates think they are awesome singers because they can do the songs on expert on rock band  tbh though it is NOTHING like real singing they werent singing as high as the recordings and the words werent clear, they were pretty much mumbling all of the lyrics as well.

I see what you're saying, man, but that's just a tiny bit of insecurity, imo.
A friend was playing Rockband with us and there was a real guitar lying around, so he picked it up and tried to play. He even tried Crazy Train's intro. He was like "Okay now I know what you, guys, do lol"
Ofcourse it seems easy, but once they see you play/try it themselves, it's not.

Yah, the only thing that really bothers me about Guitar Hero or Rock Band is that some people think that they are learning guitar. Or that its 'just like playing a real guitar'.
I always tell them that it has very little in common with real guitar playing.
Basically you pickup a little left hand/right hand coordination, but thats it.

In a couple of instances where they thought that I didnt know what I was talking about, I brought an acoustic over and said, "Here ya go, play me something."

Now I just avoid it. They can have their fun, and they will learn the difference if they ever get around to investigating a real instrument.

Gamer? Yea I was a gamer when I was young. We'd play baseball, soccer, or football. Red Rover, or hide n seek at night. We played war and shoot each other with BB guns, throw dirt clods for grenades.
We'd use trsh can lids for shields and broom sticks for swords. Mom would clean the open wounds with monkeys blood, then Dad would beat our asses for tearing up the trash can lid. Fourth of July and Christmas we would shoot bottle rockets at each other. No one died or lost an eye.
World is full of wussies. :(

Seen this attitude even before the onslaught of video games. I'm an unassuming guy and some friends natually assume that if I can do it, they can also. This is how musical instrument dealers really make their money!

I think for sure that any idiot can do it. If he is willing to put his mind to the task. I am living proof of that, to some level anyway.

I love this! This is EXACTLY the point I make to people all the time.

I am a songwriter. I can say that because I've spent nearly half of my life refining my craft. I've studied it, analyzed it, obsessed over it. If I had been going to medical school, I'd be a doctor three times over by now.

And yet, countless times, I had discussion with people who ALSO identify themselves as "songwriters", because they WROTE A SONG ONCE.

Hey, I watched 4 hours of "House" last night. Anybody need surgery? I can do it, CUZ I'M UH DOKTER NOW. :x

I work with a girl who told me that her brother bought Guitar Hero so that he could learn to play "Welcome to the Jungle"... :x

The same girl constantly tells me how AMAZING she is at singing "Wanted Dead or Alive" on Rock Band. Funny, I can sing that song pretty accurately, but it nearly blows out my vocal cords every time. And yet, this amateur (who doesn't even do Karaoke) can nail it no problem? :x

Let's play another game...all the gamers can bring their paintball markers-and I'll bring my 20 guage. we'll play a few rounds. After all, since what they are doing is "just like the real thing", they shouldn't have an issue with the rules, right?

Wow, it feels good to rant.
