Lipstick in School (Priceless!)

According to a news report, a certain private school in Washington was
recently faced with a unique problem. A number of 12-year-old girls were
beginning to use lipstick and would put it on in the bathroom. That was
fine, but after they put on their lip stick, they would press their lips
to the mirror leaving dozens of little lip prints. Every night the
maintenance man would remove them, and the next day the girls would put
them back. Finally the principal decided that something had to be done.
She called all the girls to the bathroom and met them there with the
maintenance man. She explained that all these lip prints were causing a
major problem for the custodian who had to clean the mirrors every night
(you can just imagine the yawns from the little princesses). To
demonstrate how difficult it had been to clean the mirrors, she asked
the maintenance man to show the girls how much effort was required. He
took out a long-handled squeegee, dipped it in the toilet, and cleaned
the mirror with it. Since then, there have been no lip prints on the
mirror.

There are teachers ... and then there are educators

I'm simply overwhelmed at this point.

Crushed car. Busted truck. 'Lectric lines layin' on the ground, but somehow I gots 'lectricalness tonight. Fallen trees on everything.

I've come to the conclusion that global warming SUX!

Wind storms like I never saw hit us the last 2 days & nights. The tree that landed on my wife's car looks like it was pulled out with a twist, like it unscrewed from the ground.

Dunno how long it'll take before anyone even gets out here to LOOK at the mess I'm stuck in, be it the 'lectric co or the insurance adjuster or the tow truck. I got open insulation showing out there & it's still blowing like the winds of hell out there! Ain't no way I'll be replacing the fascia that got yanked out by the power lines while they're HOT!! It IS still attached, after all. What a frikken disaster. I'm almost askeered to stay here with all these trees swaying like grass out there in these winds all around my house. The tree that did most of the damage was about 150 feet away from the house, & I have lots that are MUCH closer & a LOT bigglier!

The electric co told me that it might be a week before my service gets fixed. Then they turned it on, while the lines were down. Gee, thanks, guys! Now I get to dodge them when I have to leave in a few hours or get fried in the dark.

I had to drag 4 trees out of the road to get back from Dddonnie's, just 1 1/2 miles away, today. The roads had been cleared of dead wood when I left. 2 hours later I come back & there's 4 of 'em in different spots, & that was when the winds had died down for awhile.

Dddonnie's stuck, too, with 3 HUGE pines laying in his driveway. He had 'lectric when I didn't though, so I got some water for the dogs.

Gee...2009 is just looking better & better to me. I only hope I'm getting all the bad sh*t out of the way in the 1st cpl months. This is costly & messy & I'm feelin' pissy!

I'm off to turn off the mains now...dunno what may happen, but if that neutral line goes again, everything in here will get fried. It's happened before. Dunno how long it'll be before I get back o/l, so y'all be well & stay wild!

Just got finished on the phone with the electric co. They'll be out here soonly, they say. No idea how soon "soon" is, but I hope it's REAL soon!

So sorry to hear about your stroke of bad luck there Philby, first the flooded rehersal room and now this what a bummer.
This is kind of what it is like during a hurricane. So I can really relate I am still rebuilding since Sept 13th of last year.

Well, the surly guy came & towed the car, at least. One step closer to spending that $500 deductable! Wheeeeee!

I got all 4 dogs tied out back well away from the downed lines out front. They ain't lookin' any happier than I am.

Eh...another day off. I dunno what happens when there's downed power lines. If it rains, do they cause fires? What do ya do then? I figgered that if they were touching the ground, the breaker on the transformer would busticate, but that ain't happenin'. Maybe I should just shoot the transformer with my new 9mm. Nah...they'd prolly charge me for it!

The wires moved last night in the wind. Guess I parked too close to them. They were laying on the hood of the car I borrowed this morning. Knocked them away with my STICK, & got it out of the drive for the wife.

Damn this crap makes me nervous. Wish I'd paid more attention to my dad - he was an electrical engineer. Might have learned something about it all. In the mean time, I'm acting like they're the most poisonous things on the planet...LOL

Guess I'll go cut some firewood.

DAMN MAN!! Sounds like you're having a rough time there. We got some high winds down here in VA but nothing like you had in WV. Live downed power lines?? A stick will still conduct electricity especially if its wet. Use pvc pipe or plastic. Wear thick rubber soled shoes. Stay FAR away from the lines as possible (well you know that already). The power company shoud turn those lines off!!!

I believe the pole transformers (step-down from 15KV to 230Volt or something like that)) have cut-off switches accesible by the power company (APCO in WV?) but I dont know if they have a breaker or fuse. If they do it would take a hell of a lot of current to blow it. More than the downed line is pulling. Is the line sparking?

No sparks. Just laying there delivering unending current to my house & looking like lethal lil snakeses in the grass. S'posed to rain tomorrow, though.

They must have changed the transformer, cuz last summer it blew its breaker 3 times in a month for no apparent reason.
