i have to agree with gopher, joe walsh and don felder rock on their dual guitar solo on hotel california...but i would also add allen collins, steve gaines, and gary rossington on the ultimate all time guitar solo on free bird(live extended version). that tops my list along with any tom sholtz solo and of course the one and only billy f. gibbons with that little ol band from texas,(ZZ TOP)!! i dunno maybe i just like it old school.

I agree on the sisters choice, great stuff. Shows Vai doesn't need a whammy bar and pick squeals!
Whoa Morse so much to choose from. I would lean towards his solo on the Odyssey.
I like Johnson's work on Zap but maybe I'm biased because of the great bass solo on that tune

Oh Man!!! Damn near ANYTHING Ritchie Blackmore plays!!! But to "me" Ted Nugents "Stranglehold" rules!!! If you listen closely you can actually hear the tubes "sizzle" on that one...But that whole album just KICKS ASS!!!
it seems so many obvious ones are missing jimmy page -since i've been loving you, frank zappa - black napkins david gilmore- time, money, have a cigar, on the turning away, of course comfortably numb, gary moore -still got the blues, jimi hendrix , all along the watchtower, no matter how many times you hear the solo from stairway to heaven it is still great, then theres tons of great clapton solos, what about slash on -sweet child of mine , im not a fan, but the guitar work in that song is awesome and the list goes on and on

The Jeff Healy Band - ,When The Night Comes Falling, [Lyrics; Bob Dylan] I think that Jeff Healy is underated as a Lead Guitarist. This guy never, as to say. drys up. Got to hear his lead solo through this whole song. Its awsome! Off the sound-track movie, "Roadhouse".

Too many, don't know even where to begin. Particularly awesome is Freddie King's "Remington Ride" a guitar instrumental. Also mind boggling is Roy Buchanan's "The Messiah Will Come Again" which I believe he recorded on two different albums. I have always liked Mark Knopfler's "Sultans of Swing". Absolutely loved Pete Anderson's guitar work on Dwight Yoakam's "Thousand Miles From Nowhere". George Harrison's solo on "My Guitar Gently Weeps" is amazing. And then Brian May's guitar solos on numerous Queen songs, particularly "We Are The Champions". Still my two favorites are Freddie King's "Out Front" and "In the Open". Later...fisherman bob

My favorite rhythm riffing might be Ritchie Blackmore on Stargazer. What a great song. My favorite leads are Pete Blakk on King Diamond's Welcome Home, and Martin Barre's Aqualung solo.
C'mon...you guys are way off target! The greatest guitar solo ever, hands down, is the solo in I Wanna Be Sedated by the Ramones....
