Just dropped by to say Hi,

I am a musician (trained at the military music school 1967-1971), my main interest now is recording. I am enthusiastic about creating high quality recordings of individual singers, songwriters, musicians etc; this includes mastering and producing the final mix to CD.

My system includes;

Mixing desks with 20 channel inputs,
Various outboard/Inboard effects units,
Hard disk recording with pro quality software for both mixing and mastering,
A dedicated MIDI recording/composing system,
A selection of studio quality mics.

Also to hand are....Keyboards, 12 string jumbo acoustic guitar, Electric 6 string guitar, Flute, Fife, Cornet, Clarinet, and others.

I am happy to record pro/semi-pro/beginner solo/duo artists who can create their own backing, or singers who want to record their vocals to pre-recorded backing.

Sorry, i do not have the facilities to accommodate Bands/Groups

I offer this service (complete with photography and cover design) completely FREE.

Hello er... sorry I didn't note the name before I clicked reply!
But hi there,
It would perhaps have been just what I was needing, as I have been doing some recording of my own songs, but finding it detracts so much from my concentration on the playing that it would have been a great help perhaps.
Now in fact I am setting up one end of my workshop as a studio for when it starts to warm up again.
A problem anyway is that I am as far south in the UK as you can imagine being so we are too far apart to contemplate working together!
Shame though, I would have loved to make some music with you.
Thanks,
Mark.......................

Hello ISM,
I stumbled across your posting again, asking if anyone would like to come and record free with you.
I just wondered if you got anyone... I guess the midlands might have a slightly lower per capita quota of musicians than London and the south west.
I would have jumped at the chance to come and record a CD with you, but am now setting up a studio at my place here, and doing some recording with another writer at his studio nearby too, and Telford would have been too far to come for a day at a time.

I would though kill for a chance to do some pro quality recordings of the songs on my profile, and others I have written too.

Good luck,
Mark D Phillips...............

Hi Mark,
I have had a few people contact me about recording, but none have followed through.

I was a little surprised by some responses who were expecting me to provide a full commercial studio...for FREE.

Although the offer is still open for recording and professional promo photography, i am now concentrating more on my own musical compositions.

All the best,
Ian.

Hello Ian,
I think I made the same error as the people you mentioned; I thought you offered the studio for free as well!
But it was a while ago and there were several poeple doing similar things at that time.

Good to hear you are getting some of your own music recorded; I would be interested to hear some of it, either posted on your profile or you can email it to: mdphillips1956@yahoo.co.uk if you like.

My studio is just a curtained off and roughly carpetted end of my workshop... I will put a photo on my profile... and it is freezing still so I only go out to try to play the drums that have been donated.
When the curtaining is complete I will start trying to put some heat into it, though I was really planning to start using it when the weather warms up a bit... but some heat could help that to happen a week or so earlier!

Keep in touch on the recording stuff Ian!

Hi Mark,
My recording facility is a setup in a small spare room at my home.
It consists of a Tascam 2488 MK2 24 track workstation with an Alesis multimix 12 bootlaced to give extra inputs and effects.
This is then linked to my PC workstation where i can do the final mixing/editing and Mastering before the burn to CD.

The mics are a selection of Large and Small diaphragm Condenser types.

I do offer the use of this system/service for FREE.

It is just that some people thought i was a commercial studio with the facilities of Abbey Road.

Regards,
Ian.

Now why can't the people that come in here looking for people be like this guy?

I can smell a rat a mile away and this chap seems "spot on".

MusizMage should take a page from this gent.

EDIT: I read the other posts after, just call me Scott. It's easier and besides, I get called all kinds of stuff last of which would be capt. LOL

Hello Ian and Captain Scott,
Okay I see what you mean... people were assuming stuff that you hadn't mentioned in the first place?
I am fairly sure that Tascam is the same one I have here, except I just master in the Tascam and burn straight to CD from the machine.

Speaking of Abbey Road: in the early seventies I spent a couple of days recording on the mixer that Abbey Road was recorded on... four track I recall, or perhaps six?

Did you see the shots of my studio Ian?
Since those pics were taken I put a curtain across the wall behind the drums, and the other curtains that fall short of the floor are to be replaced by some that come from Jane Torville the skater of all people!

Good luck,
Mark..............

Hi Mark...Captain Scott,

Thank you Captain Scott for the comments, much appreciated.

Yes Mark i did take a look at your studio photo's....great space and great contacts too.

This spring i plan to build a small studio space in the garden, about 12'X8'...thats as big as i can go.
But it will be built and used for recording only, and will have a sound proofed booth (about 7'X6').
Big enough i think for solo/duo artists to record in.

Ian.

Hello Ian,
I don't know Jane Torville at all really, I nod hello if I see her in Heathfield, but her husband Phil sometimes chatted with me about motorbikes a while back.

There is no sound proofing in my studio, just sound deadening via curtains which will be double in the end.
You probably noticed the drum kit is an electric one so will be direct injection with no need for micing up or a drum-booth.
Guitars are also direct injection.
Vocal is the only thing I will record with a mic, also perhaps flute sometimes, and with both of those we might even open up the curtains to get the natural reverb of the whole workshop.

The full width of the studio end of my workshop is 18.5 feet but there is a bench in that space... or is it a raised stage for go-go dancers, as my studio is intended also for small summer beer and music days, where biker friends can ride straight into the studio for a laugh if they like!
Though not the carpeted bit!
Cheers,
Mark.................
