Hello Bobby... thanks for your reply. I spoke to Shelly to check on the distance aspect and she explained that you two are about 2 hours apart. She is in "Clearwater".

Your of the genre I need too... lol. Damnit. But that 2 hour thing can create some stress when trying to achieve regular meetings to get the basic sound together for performances.

She did however tell me to write your name down... as the 2 hour thing is an asset over the 5 hour applications we have received.

... again... thanks for your response....

Alan.

Alan please be aware that we are not assholes, we are just weary of all offers from the business end of music!
I like to give new ventures a chance, but remain weary until I see reason to relax.

Due to a post here, I spent the time to put a 6 piece band together, spent 5 weeks teaching them my music, and caravaned 3 vehicles to Charleston W.V. on promises of a 12,000 audience and 5 major label A&R reps, ect. ect. all on my dime.
After gathering up the gear myself from other act's that was "supposed" to be there... I got to play for 100 people w/no monitors and short a backup vocalist's mic!
I wont take the 3 days to tell you all o the others.

So here are the questions that you hate to hear, but we like answers to:

Do you have major label contacts and support
Do you have production facilities
Do you have publishing assets
Are you willing to support artist's who require creative freedom

Hello Hayden... to the contrary... I like those questions. Your replies are as follows:

(1) I won't do business in any way with a Major Label... simply because... I don't like the way they do business with artists. For example....

.... Major Labels take control of the artist's Copyrights... I am against that... and won't sign a single artist that don't own and will maintain... 100% Copyright of their music.

.... Major Labels over charge artist on such deals as... "breakage" listed in most of their contracts still that pertained mostly to records and cassette tapes.. and not to CDs (Major Labels didn't update their contracts in some areas).

.... Major Labels over spend on behalf of the artist... paying thousands of dollars at a time on things that don't always pay for itself... leaving the artist paying the price during CD sales... as the Major Labels always make sure they take their money back first... before the artist sees any money.

(2) I hire the production facilities that I need. If I want you to master a song of yours... I would simply talk with you about which studio you would be more comfortable with... and I would send you there.

(3) Publishing music is simply a matter of paying the price tag. Assets in this case... are very easily purchased. For the most part... you just begin with Copyrighting your music.... and if you like... you can hire a Publishing Company to act on your behalf to ensure you achieve any/all money owed to you. (maybe i'm missing the point of your question).

(4) I prefer artists that require/demand creative freedom... thats where the hit songs are born.... and from where the real art within music stems.

If I may add... I don't mind all the questions I am receiving... and can well understand everyone's wearyness. I'm not taking offense...

... Alan.

You don't need to take the 3 days out of the many weeks of stories i'm sure you could share... i've heard some horror stories as well in my travels.

I knew when I started organizing this idea... it wasn't going to go over so big in the beginning. I anticipated there would be alot of questions... and alot of people too scared of being burnt yet again.

This is all very well understood... and all respected.

I trust what will happen eventually is... a few musicians will decide to say... "oh what the hell... its only 10 bucks a month... i'll try it out for a bit and see what happens".

Once that happens... i'll have to opportunity to create an example ... as I know others will be watching......

.... my only concern with that little idea is... trying to spend thousands of dollars on members to offer the example I want others to understand as being the purpose of the site to begin with.... when I may only have a half dozen members giving the site a chance ...

Creating thousands of dollars in opportunities... with only maybe 10 members will of course be a task. But... i'm always up to a challenge... lol.

Hey Alan. Just wanted you to know that I'm available at anytime. The distance to St.Pete is actually about an hours drive for me....

Alan I contacted you an an unsigned artist about working together, and gave you the link to some of my music. your reply was soley on convincing me that I needed to get a piad subscription to your site, and that would give you more money to spend on me. You never even mentioned my music, leading me to believe that you didn't even listen to it. You even informed me that if a "solo singer" signed up from my area, you could contact me; that's nice considering I'm a singer/songwriter and would obviously need a solo singer to accomplish my goals.
Then you come here and start degrading the musicians on this forum.

Sounds like Mike Wills from Ace Entertainment moved back to Florida and changed his name!

Hayden... those are fair comments. And... I am surely going to misjudge your interests... and in honesty... not even have the slightest clue as what I would do for you... simply because... we didn't talk yet... I have no idea what you want or what your goals are... etc.

Every person is different. I don't want to assume what you want... or what your goals are... based on what everyone elses goals are.

In all fairness Hayden... I don't know anything about you to even hazzard a guess at what would be the best thing to do for you first.. or second... etc.

As for your music.... yes... I did listen to it. But like I just pointed out... you and I didn't talk yet.

I will help you Hayden, and anyone else here on the site, absolutely for FREE... (and you don't even have to go anywhere near my site... simply email me and ill do my best). But... i'm not made of money... I can only do so much for FREE... so please don't expect any major opportunites.

well Alan if your representing yourself as a label... and I am an unsigned artist that contacted you and you replied... Why haven't we talked?
Again, your only response was on why I should get a paid subscription!
It sounds to me that you are not a label, but just someone trying to start a website. That's fine as long as your upfront about it, and not making statements that present you as more than that!
I've had a couple of major producers look at me, and they talked about my music, and that's all they talked about.

I will give you the same challenge I've given others in this area;
give me a "free" subscription to your site and I will evaluate it. If it looks both legit and valuable, I will pass that along to the bandmix community, and you will get paid subscriptions.
If you don't see that as a worthy investment, well.....good luck in the business world!

I thought you were applying as a guitarist... not a solo singer. I apologize for misunderstanding... and ok.... I see why your not happy with my response.

I didn't receive any email back from you explaining to me that I was treating you unfairly. I wish you would have sent me one helping me understand that... but all is good.

Thanks for explaining.

To be honest... I can't afford to sign any additional solo artists... simply because... I don't have a single musician. I can't find the musicians for the solo artist I have now... let alone a group of additional solo artists.

Until I achieve some kind of organized system of musicians... I have to say no to solo artists. There is abosuletly nothing I can do for them. At some point... they will have to be organized into a band... and I can't guarantee them that.

Again Hayden I do apologize for misunderstanding your email to me... and for wasting your time with my response....

I have made it plain on this site in numerous threads that I am here looking for musicians. Not once did I say anything about me wanting a solo artist.

I misunderstood Hayden... simple as that. Again... I apologize.
