My Favorite song of all time

Not to be offensive but I never liked Bruce's total lack of style.
He just grates on my last nerve.
Born To Be Wild is an overtly simplistic song with a bunch of fill.
I cannot denie the energy, however the lyics to me are childish silly.
Ok who takes the first shot at me. May I have a blindfold. And a cigar to clench in my teeth.

I'll stand beside ya, sans. I never liked it, either, and Bruce mumbling through it live didn't change my opinion...

I spent a good deal of my life in New Jersey from 1971 to 1987. Springsteen rose to prominence while I was there. Many of my New Jersey friends thought he was God. I don't think much of him really. He's got a few good songs, but he never ever shuts up in any of his songs. There's almost no soloing by any of his band members. It's all Springsteen all the time. HIs material is vocals, vocals and MORE VOCALS. I like to hear what the other band members sound like at least once in a while. I'm into improvisation and lead playing virtuosity. Springsteen is ALL ABOUT SPRINGSTEEN. I can't think of any major performer who sings so constantly. Just not my cup of tea (can you tell?). Later...

I am suprised by how one demisional the musicians on this site are.

Please understand people I am not trying to intimidate you good folks but come on Bruce Springstein is what American Music is about, and I am a Texan from way down here on the Texas Gulf Coast and I understand this.
There is a recent thread about how to get your music played on the radio well, in the old days you went into a radio station with a frikken WAD OF CASH given to you by the record co. and or someone sponsoring your music and if you were lucky between the midnight hour and the anti-communism your song would get played, and then there was the college radio stations that might play your music, the bottom line was the only way you could make it in the music biz. was to tour your ass off. Staying on the road till you came back home like Peter Frampton did to find yor Penny lover gone.
I have played all this American music, and when I heard Jennifer Hudson sing the National Anthem tonight I wept openly in front of my wife.

I am just trying to say that whether you understand it or not there is a such a thing as the bigger picture and that picture is the American culture, and the American culture is light years beyond a single dimension
and with all do respect probably not any of our deminsions hopefully it is the sum and at the same time the induvidulality of us all.

In all my years I have never been as concerned about our society as I am now, There is going to be a colapse of Governments on a world wide level beyond what we as an American society have ever experienced in the post WW2 society have seen.

Only a return to personal responsability as draw up by the framers of our constatution can save true liberty. Listen to all you hear on radio and TV.
Every bad thing that happens is blamed on 1 Some inanimate object. IE Guns = violence or, Cell phones = auto crashes, or single moms raise criminals. AIDS is a national health crises. No its not. It is totally behavior related. Its all just avoidance of simple truth and personal resposability.
The whole Obama campagin was based on these falehoods. And the "hope" to never again have to accept any responsability for ones actions. Sheep lead to slaughter.

I have no idea how this thread turned political, cuz in my opinion "the boss" is no better at politics than he is as a singer. That in-your-face chest-pounding "Born In The USA" is a stereotypical American attitude, perhaps. You know, that whole "I'm so proud that I was born here & not in YOUR country" thing that makes me wanna puke. (You'd think some ppl truly believe that they had created the USA & decided to live here pre-birth, the way they speak about how "proud" they are to have been accidently born here!) I think it might be best if his stuff was kept on military bases where they hafta have that kinda attitude. Out here in the real world, I don't think it has much of a place, other than to rile up the drunks & granfallooners.

Some of his story-telling songs are okay. I actually bought that BITUSA LP when it came out, & found it disappointing, musically & lyrically, as I recall. I got one of his other CD's lying around here somewhere, & I couldn't really get into it either. His music is predictable, for the most part, while his lyrics are often either cryptic or meaningless dribble using random rhymes. (I guess you can see I'm not a huge fan.) Never once in my 35 years of playing & performing have I found it necessary to do one of his songs. The best thing I can say about him is that he is occasionally prolific, & yes, there have been little nuggets of genius here or there, in this song or that, but I can't say that I've liked an entire song from him, yet.

I like his band. They're all top-notch players. I just don't like either what he has to say, or the way he says it, more often than not.

Oh yeah...although Jennifer Hudson has a wonderful voice, I much preferred Faith Hill's choice of song. "America The Beautiful" should really be our national anthem. The one we use is literally peppered with question marks & is too difficult for the average person to sing. It stinks of elitism (cuz "everyone" can't sing it) & indecision & lack of direction (thanks to all the question marks). I HATE the Star Spangled Banner. Always have. It's bad poetry & a stolen melody. We deserve MUCH better!

Woody Guthrie's song is descriptive, catchy, and accurate, plus, it has a sense of hope that our crappy anthem is lacking. It also wasn't a stolen melody. That riles me BIGGLY!

Yes Bob I think you've nailed it, I too never liked him, My wife on the other hand is crazy obout him she dragged me to go seem him twice at the Madison square Garden in the city and the Meadowlands Giant stadium, now I hear that is gonna tour again I hope not in New Jersey I'll have to call in sick if my wife wants to see him again.

New Jersey has produced many headlines but for some reason I don't like any of them, is this a case of grass being is greener in other places?

I don't really love him or hate him... He's had a few good songs over the years... I wouldn't buy any of his albums though.. but I like a lot of bands not quite enough to buy the albums...

I'm kind of surprised to see such emotional argument over him though... never expected that.

There nothing wrong in professing one's pride in the country if it's sincirely said, but when an entertainer sings it, you have to wonder if he singing it because he believes it or just to appeal to the masses to make extra bucks.

In his defense, Born in the USA was NOT as most people took it. Look up the lyrics and you will find that it's actually kind of a slam against that very mentality. And when the R-party tried to use it as their theme song, he sued them.

Gotta give him some credit for that, and I think that song is perhaps the most misunderstood, or incorrectly identified song in rock and roll.

I like a few of his songs. His voice is a little annoying. He is ok. Nothing special. He does have a butt-load of energy and is a good showman.

Apart from Born to Run, I was never a connoisseur of The Boss .

By all accounts, he is still a great guy , however.
After all, Roy Orbison invited him to jam on his TV special years back, so that PROVES that Bruce is cool!

Besides a few stinkin' slums, and petrochemical plants, and a couple of million bad drivers (not to mention our favourite resident BandMix forum heckler) Jersey is actually a great little state. Especially the state and national parks along the northern Delaware River. The Minisink region, our favorite swimmin' place.

I was going to point it out, but Kramerdude beat me to it. BITUSA is actually condemning the mentality of the American society, and told from the perspective of a vietnam vet.
Springsteen tells a good story, I have to admit. I would probably even list him as an influence in that respect. That being said, there were MANY other reasons that he was thought of as "The New Dylan"...and I'm sure that his God-awful vocals were a major part of it.
I'll catch hell fro this, but...I was truly dissapointed by the show. After years of getting crap like Aerosmith/N'SYNC/britney spears, I had given up on the half-time show. I started watching the Butt-Bowl instead. Then, Last year, Tom Petty lit it up! When I heard Bruce was doing it this year, I was really excited. It's great to see the people I grew up listening to performing on such a major scale. Unfortunately, IMO, he didn't do it justice. I just wasn't impressed. He played Born to Run (mumbled through it-as I said, I never liked it anyway), Then he played the title track of his new album (yay.). Lastly, he played "Glory Days" (to remind us all that once upon a time-1985 to be exact, he wrote some popular music).
Whatever.

My apology for dragging on el politico. But you know I shoot from the hip.
