Has anyone ever had a guitar case with a combo lock that just changed codes on you at all? Like a wheel slipping or a faulty combo lock just goes to hell? I just had this happen and had a medium sized panic attack when I could not retrieve my beloved 78 les paul. Luckily these combo locks on my case are made to simply slow the opening if you cant get it right, and you can easily slip the wheels to the side and find the pins. I am sure this has happened to others, what are you opinions on cases? Meaning Key vs Combo vs just simple latch?

I don't use the locks on my hardshell cases (although they do have key locks), simply because if someone steals it, the lock really ain't going to compel them to give it back, and it sure ain't going to stop them from getting into the case by more than two minutes.

Yeah...I've never locked a case for my axe, either.

I've been cartin' my ol' Yamaha SY-55 synthesizer around in a Gibson guitar case since the early 90's. It's a cheap one, however, with no lock. Probably wouldn't lock it neither, if it did have one!

Yes. the lock on my Gibson case is a piece of crap. Pried it off with a screw driver for practice second night I had it.
Even if it was a good lock someone could just walk away case n all. Pry it open at there convenience. Kind of a silly idea. Not like some fools gonna shoot themselves with my guitar.

The case i got for my gibson smartwood had a lock that was set at 0000 for about 10 years with no problems. It srewed up last weekend and I wound up doing the screwdriver thing. I just about tore the case up trying to get it open after getting pissed off I believe it was a conspiricy to get us to buy new equipment when we dont need it. Who wants a lock on a guitar case.

I had to pry one off one of my cases. It had the little spin combination and someone decided to reset it for me. A screwdriver did the trick, I was in the box in about 10 seconds so a lot of good they would do.

10 seconds included looking for the damn screwdriver no doubt.
Useless as tits on a boar hog.
