I play in a vintage rhythm n' blues band, mostly toe-tapping stuff. We have an upcoming gig which will require us to play 3-4 slow dance songs per set. Any of you gigging musicians out there have any ideas we may be able to explore? Any help is greatly appreciated.--Floyd

I agree F.B.
everytime we play Wonderful Tonight it packs the dance floor, down here in Texas we call it belt polishing music.
Or you could call it belly rubbin music! :)

Yeah, not just a slow song... more like a slow death. Nothing kills my buzz more than hearing that song (as a patron)... Makes me want to leave the bar, go home and kill myself.

that and "Knocking on Heaven's Door" I'd rather dig up that gun if I have to play that song again.

As bad as Wonderful Tonight and Knocking On Heaven's Door are somehow a lot of people like those tunes. In the past we've had similarly crappy songs in our repertoire that people loved. Unfortuneately sometimes you have to play what people like even if you can't stand them. Even some of our originals I get tired of but people like them so we keep playing them.

I have to diss on that one Bob.
I believe you can find "other" song's that they will like just as much (and maybe more) and not do what has been DONE TO DEATH!
Give the audience the benefit of the dought that they have some musical taste, and would maybe enjoy something they dont often get to hear, even more than the same ole same ole.
