See? That wasn't so bad. Nice, friendly sounding name - aloud it even has a classical reference...potentially harmless.

You go, girl!

LOL...further proof that I shouldn't name anything.

Eh...look at some of the pros' names, Jessica. There are acts out there like "Toad The Wet Sprocket" or "Squirrel Nut Zipper."

Proof that ANYTHING works as a name, if the act works for the audience.

Still, we all seem to try to get that perfect name, don't we? That is, unless we go with the tired old "Joe Blow Blues Band" sounding stuff.

Well, ok. Did people actually hire those people with band names like that? Excuse my ignorance on this matter. Just seems like the name of a band(s) that wouldn't get a job.

No, they certainly do.

The Aquabats, Gnarls Barkley, and Scary Kids Scaring Kids are just a few successful groups with borderline ridiculous names.

Yep, both Toad & Squirrel had hits in the top 100 at some point. They've both been on TV lots of times. I guarantee you've heard music from both acts at some point, even if you didn't recognise it as being from them.

Their band names were kinda strange, but they managed to grab one's attention for that, if for nothing else.

It's just word play, & I love word play.

Yeah. Here's funny names of bands that everyone knows that made it big:

Smashing Pumpkins
a guy named Alice (Cooper)
ZZ Top (named after zig-zag and Tops rolling papers)
The Beatles
Strawberry Alarmclock (big in the 60's)
AC/DC
Jim Dandy and Black Oak Arkansas
Ted Nugent and the Amboy Dukes
Pearljam
Soundgarden
.. just to name a few..

I noticed that most of the band name suggestions offered didn't utilize the prefix "The"
Call me old fashioned, but I usually like "THE" bands the best. like.....
THE Beatles
THE Animals
THE Seeds
THE Nashville Teens
The Cure
THE Talking Heads
The Fixx
THE Punishment of Luxury
etc. etc.

and the names of a few of my own old bands....
THE Lost Minds
THE Nutones
THE Needles
and last but not least,
THE Gin House Rockers

later,
THE Howlin' One

I heard the story behind AC/DC was a sewing machine that had it written on it.

And legend has it that "THE Buffalo Springfield" got their name from the brand name on the side of a of a "steam" roller. (The machine didn't have the prefix THE, however)
