Finally got around to posting a few demos.

Short, rough, and very incomplete.

Take a listen on my profile.

I've got ROCK/METAL, FUNKY MOTOWN, and a little bit of techno/electronic/whatever the hell you what to call it.

Thank you first of all for posting some music samples.
Too many people dont.
The metal sample seemed aukward to me. Timing / tempo just didnt add up for me. It can be tricky. One of my own compositions is that way. I just cant seem to nail the timing and tempo down just right.
I enjoyed Funky Motown though, was a catchy tune.
Be sure to repost as you revise and complete your projects.
Best of luck to ya.

METAL doesn't work for me. Sounds like you & the drummer were in two different counties when you recorded it. The drummer needs to have a general direction, but this seemed totally free-form, & thus it fell apart. The tone was pretty good, but that's about it.

Lost In Frost was pretty cool, but needed development.

The Motown funky thing was done on garage band, wasn't it? I'd be more interested in hearing what YOU can play.

Metal sounds like Tool, so +1 for that. The rest was cool.

wow dudes.... can't tell it's all garageband uh?

well the guitars are me playing, but yeah it's all done DI in garageband, no amps no mics. and lots of loops, especially those drums.

the metal demo (which is VERY INCOMPLETE AND only ROUGH track ideas) ... well the whole thing is just 4/4 time. if your ears can pick it up... i only rushed that last section, like most amateur guitarists do. but yeah like i said, drums are all loops. and that guitar tone is pretty sweet considering its all garageband effects. totally going for a somewhat CHUCK's DEATH tone... if I need to explain, you don't know METAL.

and as far as that comment about only wanting to hear what I can play and not just posting midi... what the hell man?
never hear of electro? or maybe something for an intro or interlude... I'm pretty sure it has become widely accepted to have samples in music now.
just because i can explore different atmospheres, what makes that any less legit?

also the funky motown is totally loops from garageband... anyone could have made that, but I arranged it.

Now I am disappointed. :(
I mean sure you have a right to do whatever turns you on.
But I ass / u / me / d that there was some serious attempts at musicianship.
I,ve not been bustin my butt and bleeding my fingers to play or listen to airband bullshit.

CWar - I've made a cpl recordings using only garageband samples, & yeah, it's fun, as far as it goes. I'd never put 'em up as examples of my work, though, unless I'd just put my own bass work over their stuff. I don't consider the arranging of other ppl's sampled work to be either particularly creative or a true & fair example of my abilities. To each his own, I suppose.

At least I got the 1st one right - you prolly WERE in two completely different counties. LOL

Oh, & for the record, if I was to put up an example of my "electro" work, it would at least be stuff that I had played! If you look at "Heads Up" on my profile, note that I sampled a live flute, & I used my keyboard's canned sampled sounds for all the other instruments that you hear, save the guitar, which I played. I played & sang everything, each & every note, on the recording. I would consider that an honest representation of my work, even though I cannot actually play the flute. I played the stuff on my keyboard. That certainly doesn't make me a "purist," but I do have stricter standards, perhaps, on this subject.

You said it best yourself - "loops from garageband... anyone could have made that..." So true. ANYONE can do it. So why bother?

As far as its use being "generally accepted," I'd say you need to hang out with a higher class of ppl. No one I know would accept this as an honest example of your work, or even a legitimate thing to put on a CD. Perhaps it was accepted back when Vanilla Ice & other crappers started using it, but ya know what? It ain't accepted any more! Even the non-musicians have come to view it with scorn. Real musicians, those who have achieved things in the music world, who have worked hard to hone their craft, tend to laugh at samplers because they're TOTALLY BOGUS. You wanna cut & paste, go ahead, but at least cut & paste examples of your own playing, not other ppl's!

Using garageband's drums & other stuff as background for the display of your instrument & your skills in a setting like this is one thing, but programming an entire piece & fooling ppl is quite another. Yes indeed, it DOES make it "less legit."
