i have a Geddy Lee jazz. it'a great. i like Gibson EB models and Thunderbirds. and Ricks too. i don't go for basses like Pedula and Warwick. a lot of those companies try to make ovarall good basses, which is great, but they never seem to have alot of character or any unique sound behind them.

although i have played some Warwick Thumb basses that have been really nice.

My dream bass is a Warwick. Played a 5-string Corvette Standard and was one of the few basses where the B string didn't feel "Tacked On" and there was just as much life and snap as in the EADG strings.

My current bass is a Yamaha RBX 775 which, after getting all the neck issues resolved, is a fairly competent bass though I do not like the rocker switch or the "Bass Boost" (worthless) feature.

I checked them out at Sam Ash and they go for about $1349 new but if you were condidering an offer in the $800 - $900 range, you may just have my attention!

They are great basses. I just don't like the string spacing especially on the 6s.

I agree with you there Brother! Looks like a wider guage spacing of the strings should be more common with custom made basses. at least an option for the buyer.

huh? I like the 6 string spacing on the newer high end basses like Modulus, Carvin, etc. For me, when I tried the Alembic 6 strings the neck width was not that bad it's seemed like the spacing on the 6 was the same as a 4.

Now after playing 6's for a couple a years I feel lost on a 4 and the necks seem as small as guitar necks. 5's feel a bit better.

For me the extra strings mean more possibilities. I write on the bass so it's easier to come up with cool chords and play lead lines if I have a few higher strings. That way I don't have to translate my thought process to guitar. That whole 1/2 step thing on the high B and E strings on a guitar kills me. On 5,6,7 string basses all the strings are tuned in 4ths so all your 4 string patterns repeat.

If Carvin made a 7 string I'd buy one but for now I'm interested in getting one of those Conklin 7s ever since I saw Bill bubba Dickens at NAMM.

I hear you! I've yet to own a 6 or 7 myself. but, Ive played 5s for a couple of years now. Theres just not much you can do with the 4s on todays cover songs. even country music is all 5s & 6s these days. I dont know much about the 7s, so this will sound like a dumb question but, on the 7 string, Do you have a lower octave top string after the B-string or, a higher string on the bottom after the high-C string on the 7s [I believe the bottom 6-string is a high C.] ?? isnt it? Sorry to sound like such a big dummy. If I dont ask, I wont learn. I think that I am in love with the Conklin 7-string. what are some other brands that make the 7s ?
