My Boss digital echo bit the dust a couple of months ago, but I haven't bothered to take it in for repair, because I've HATED the sound of that thing for guitar since day one. I can't afford a real tape echo, and even some of the analog boxes are pretty pricey. But check out the new MXR Carbon Copy analog echo. Quite affordable with 600 mil secs of delay, and a "mod" button which adds some pitch wavering to the repeats to emulate a tape echo. I think I'll pick one up this weekend. I still have my old Boss DM-2 delay, and like the sound of it, but the longest delay is still a bit too quick for a nice medium solo setting.

Sounds like a cool pedal, worth a try. I'm still using my trusty (or should that be crusty) old Arion SAD 1 analog pedal, not sure what the longest delay is but I set it just under halfway and i works great, anything else is too long for me. Problem is finding one...they're not very common these days, and usually considered one of the better vintage delays. Did find one on ebay though,

Mine has a white logo strip where this one is yellow, otherwise it's identical. This is the pedal I used for a while to run stereo. I'd run it through the effects loop of my MX, then run the other output of the stereo out to a separate amp on the other side of the stage, (100 watt Realistic PA amp and 1x12 cab) set the volume on that amp so I had stereo, then everything was controlled from the main amp from there. Sweet...

Funny thing about Arion Pedals. Ten years ago they couldn't be given away, now they're being bought as vintage gear for higher than they were being sold brand new. Same with old DOD pedals.

Dajax,

Its digital but I like a Line 6 Delay Modeler pedal. GC in my area ussually has them used in the 170 dollar range. Its a sampler with up to 14 sec of delay. You can preset a couple of different things in it, and it has a very usable reverse function. It doesnt sound as authentic as the ole Electro Harmonix stuff but it is very usable if you are able to test one sometime.

I use an old Arion Octave pedal on my board, of course Ive retired all that for a POD PRO the last few shows.

I guess what it is, is that I'm spoiled from using an Echoplex for most of the 70s. My buddy has one of the Fulltone Tube Tape Echoes, and it sounds great, but I sure don't have a spare grand kicking around for cool toy like that at the moment

Gee you know. I have played around with the delay some. And with the echo feature. But for the life of me I just cant see where it fits into the whole lead guitar scheme.
The delay well, either I cant detect any difference. Or It's just too much.
Perhaps I just dont know what to expext. Or how to play to the damed thing.

sans - I use mine to accent the guitar sound, make it a little fuller. I Set it for one light echo, you can barely tell it's there at all, but it adds a bit of sustain and presence, makes it a little fuller. Helps a little when I want feedback too. I've tried different settings, from one echo to several, what works best for me is about a 1/3 second delay, one echo, and low enough you can barely tell it's there. A heavier echo and it gets in the way, sometimes if I'm playing fast licks I can't tell if I'm hearing the note I just played or the one before that, so one echo is all I want, and pretty light. It takes some getting used to, but once I got it set where I liked it, I usually play with it on all the time, the only effect I run all the time. I like it better than the sound of most reverb units, and usually use it in place of reverb.

Thank you sir.
I will break it out again and play with it some. Eric (our bassest) has suggested it once or twice.

I rarely if ever use an echo on lead guitar when I'm recording, but if I'm playing live, especially in a 3 piece band I find a little echo on the solos helps to fill out the sound.
