I've ran it the CELL PHONE thing this last year. This guy had a great place to practice and decent equipment. He would always be looking at his phone!
We had only played together four times. Then in the middle of a song his cell rings he answers it and goes outside What? The very next week i brought a drummer and bass player He didn't show. He said he felt sick so he didn't want to play " Where was your cell phone them" Leave the cells off till we break or don't bring it at all. The top situation i ran across was i went to meet a band mind you i have just meet them. Then after about and hour two guys stopped asked if i BURNED went out side and smoked a joint What???

That's pretty common, too, Shawnkarl. A lot of times, musicians just assume that, because you're involved in music, you're ready to hit the bong with 'em. Personally, I don't care what people do, as long as it doesn't affect me. Don't get me stoned (I'm a easy victim to second hand smoke!- ), don't get me arrested, and don't waste my time when you didn't know when to stop-and now ya can't play worth a crap!
I often said that if you are playing with three other musicians, and nobody's on anything-you must be in church (even then, that's not 100% true). The band I play in now consists of two state troopers and a city council member, so...it's (probably) not happening there!!

Not doin' the band thing too much anymore, but back it the day we used to do BOTH. Work and fun. 4 hours of practice a night (completely straight) THEN the fun. Screwin around with jammin, girls, (no cell phones back then) and some booze and substance abuse. (I did say "back in the day" which was 70s-80s) . I dont do anything illegal now, State Trooper dudes.. 8)

I can almost guarantee at least one is on drugs.

That'd be meh.. lol

And as for the validity of burning whilst jamming with people? I THOUGHT EVERYONE DID, unless they just don't.

That's because you're a stiff, Robin. You play the straight one in an Abbot and Costello duet.

But you knew this already. When you take no chances, you have nothing to lose, right ?

But you never get to open up your minds' eye.

Opps did you miss something? That's like asking if the tree makes a noise when it falls, if no one is there to hear it. I bet you said no.

ASk Mr. Williams what he thinks, betcha can't print his response. LOL

Wow. I didn't expect that.

Just because I don't do drugs?

Hmmmm Drugs = mind blowing experiences or even imagination or fun?

Taking no chances? Let's see, I met my current husband in an internet chat room (AOL). That was about 13 years ago. I moved here from Michigan and we have been married for 8 years now. I think taking that chance worked well for me.

Never mind. A closed mind is a terrible thing to waste.

PS> if a tree falls and I am not there to hear it does not mean it doesn't make noise. SOMETHING will hear it. Just not me.

Why am I even bothering??????

It's okay, Robin, the Cap has that visceral crap going on for everyone, sometimes. It always surprizes me when he says something serious or worthwhile, but when he gets there, it's almost worth wading through the rest of his tripe.

I don't care about the drugs, really. I know that there's times it just goes with the territory. I often wonder what would Mozart be on if he lived today. He was quite the party animal in his day.

If there's heavy stuff I stay far away, but there are plenty of times when I've imbibed a bit, myself, if it was offered. (That's how we recorded the Mushroom Chronicles, in fact.)

I don't make a habit of it. Cigarettes are a big enough hassle to deal with. I don't need any other addictions, be they physical or psychological.

Is the music worthwhile, is the only important thing, to me. Next to that, of course, is whether or not I feel safe in any given situation. There are some ppl that you just couldn't feel comfortable with, no matter the parameters.

Man I used to do many chemicals. Kung Fu and my wife saved my life.
I see nothing wrong with the recreational use of weed personally. There is no way I could play guitar while smoking pot though.
I get higher now than I ever did on weed, coke, or acid.
Just on being alive. Cleche' yea if you like. To me its the only way.
Its ok to enjoy the substances of nature. Damn few people can without it controlling there lives though.
There is so much outside. Why turn inside?
Bravo Robin.
