Any recommendations for a good Blues video school?
Intermediate to Advanced levels.

Personally, I think that most videos use lots more colors than that one.

Is that like the 1st course in a series? Do you move on to red, green, yellow, etc, in later classes?

Seems silly to me, but I guess the pro's know what they're doing.

There's a local TV station that was advertising to teach ppl how to use cameras & such. Maybe you should ask someone at your local TV station.

I'd still check out local TV stations for info on video recording schools & techniques. See if you can meet up with one of their cameramen, or something. You can also check out some advertising agencies to get info that may lead to more info, if nothing else.

Ah. Perhaps I was not clear. I meant a DVD with video lessons. I have DVDs with Micheal Angelo Batio, Zakk, Randy and others. They are broken in to small lessons where they show not only arpeggios and licks but talk about specific techniques.

I really suck at blues improvisation. Just pentatonic scales do not cut it for me. There is so much more to it then meets the eye.

I think you would be better off visiting one of many websites and have "jam tracks" in all kinds of different keys and such (also different genres). Many of them will tell you exactly what scales are best used with the tracks, and in what keys. Other sites will tell you every note on the neck in that scale / position - so once you practice the scale on the track a few times and get it down, you can experiment and create your OWN progressions and 'tricks'.

The reason I don't think training videos are helpful is simply because you are learning licks from guys with signature sounds, so unless you are in a tribute band, it will only make you sound like XXX guitarist, instead of sounding like yourself.

I know Joe Walsh has some lessons on video. They're pretty funny, too, cuz it looks like he's totally stoned while he goes through the thing. He points to the 3rd string & says "This here's the only string you really need to tune. If this one goes out you're screwed. The rest are mostly fluff." Something along those lines.

I have an old VHS around here someplace with Steve Morse & a whole buncha others on it. Didn't do me much good, though. I'm mostly a strummer/rhythm player lookin' for new chords to use.

You too do have a point. Indeed the DVDs I have is a brake down of what those guys play and how they do it. It is interesting of cause. It just feels that I am missing something. Something important and I just can't put my finger on it. There is a blues track that I struggle with for sometime now. I can play all sort of stuff over it that is in key and all, but, it just does not get off the ground and fly. May be I just do not have it - who knows. But I believe it is just I am missing something obvious. Whatever I play just does not sound like blues to me.

Maybe try to learn some Stevie Ray Vaughn stuff? I suggest him because his style is so thick, you end up having to really over-accent the notes to properly imitate it.

Don't think that you don't have what it takes. For me, it was always feeling that way, but plugging away until one day *CLICK* all at once I got it. Happened recently to me for trying to nail some olschool Eddie Van Halen stuff.. it threw me off for a long time, then BAM, suddenly I got it, it's just a style of playing that requires practice like any other.

Blues seemed to come easier to me, but in the end, I'm no Clapton, or Vaughn, I just do a decent job of faking it lol.

I have been reading this post, and I envy you guys that can watch videos and read books on technique and lern the stuff. I have never been able to do that. I have owned at various times diferent books and vidos, but i have so much trouble with comprehesion. I just shoot from the hip on evrrything I play. I wonder somtimes if thats wy I have a hard time finding people to jam with. Does annyone have anny sugestions for some one who is dyslexic, has trouble with comprehesion, and genraly has short atention span theater playing in there head all the time. Alexander You are so right, there are so many colors and flavors in the blues it's impossible to learn them all, you'll have to find your own expression, the one thing that most if not all blues player do is a lot of bendings and stretching of strings with vibrato on sustained notes, if you know pentatonic scales already, you might want to try to incorporate those technics in your playing. Check my profile for couple Blues with different time signature.

One reason that I am not frequenting this forum as much as I did is the fact there there is a CULT system in here which abides by scoffing at most things people post.

If you are serious about music then that is fine, if you are rich because of music then that is great, if you are here because you have nothing else better to do than scoff at people when the are asking a question then this is no longer a peer support forum.

Perhaps LARGE posters would be better next time you post Denny? It obviously works for other people here.
