Neither was progressive rock what it is today. Or any other genre, for that matter. Your point is moot.

Also, there are some suburban kids who do "have it so bad," and might find legitimate comfort in commiseration through that kind of music. It's okay if you don't like it, but you really shouldn't go bashing other people. Say what you don't like about the music not the people, because then you'll get to offending people and arguments will start.

Actually, it's the people/fans that annoy me more than the so-called musicians. From their depressing attitude to their snobbiness [hmm that's probably not even a word.. anyways..] to their *ahem* way of dealing with their troubles by cutting themselves using razors... yea, okay

Anyway, getting back to the original point of the thread...

I think that listening to the three albums, you hear a very definite progression as they establish their sound. There was a clear leap from the first to the second and you could be forgiven for thinking they were actually different bands, the sound is so different. The second develops on the first in the areas of melody and structure, but the Black Parade (in my opinion) is almost what the other two were aiming for.

These are not just catchy tunes for kids. The quality of the melodies and counter-melodies and the often thoughtful lyrics take this beyond 'throw-away-pop'. There's obviously been a lot of thought gone into it and their effort has paid off.
