It's funny, but although I've been playing & performing for over 35 odd yrs, I've been in 2 duos & only 8 bands, only one of which I've been in for more than 2 yrs. Most of my playing, writing & performing musical life has been spent as a solo performer.

That band I auditioned for last Thur won't be using me after all...seems their usual bass player called them with feelings of remorse for leaving them in the lurch at the 11th hour, & will finish out the yr with them, although his wife will not be returning. (When I 1st heard this part I thought that perhaps I wasn't as good as I'd thought I was, & they'd decided to tell me to bug off in the nicest way possible.) They then proceeded to tell me that their usual bass guy would not be returning after the 1st of the yr, & offered me a permanent position in the band, if I'd be willing to sing more (most?) of the material. Dunno about that yet.

Including this current project, three, but I'm only nineteen, so I expect to be participating in others over the years to come.

Hey Philby, that is great news sounds like an oppurtunity to me.
My very favorite saying is that, when one door closes another one opens!!!
There is no doubt in my mind YOU ARE GOOD ENOUGH rock on Bro.
If I were there, or you were here, there would be some pretty amazing music happening!!!!!!! :D

Thanks, J-H. Funny how the doubts still kick in sometimes after all these yrs of playing, ain't it? I'm thinking about doing that band, but I think it might interfere with what I'm trying to get gong with Flamingo Road...although FR seems to be having troubles getting off the ground right now.

Band names I've been in - Heartsblud, Ice Cream Soup, Night Wave, Red Moon, Tribal Stew, The Flamingo Road Band, Funk Me Fester, The Chef Eric Band...oh I forgot one - The Cumberland Crusaders

They all played out except for Heartsblud, which was a buncha basement time-wasting that was fun in my ol' HS daze. So I guess I've been in 9.

This is funny.

4 Drunk Fukkers
4 Neat Guys
Crystal
Golden Shadow
Crystal Ship
White Trash
The Lizards
Johnny and The Lizzards
Dark Shadow
Twilight Zone
The Late Show
Destiny
Anonymous
Rampage

20 years off and on and still counting Aint Yo Mama

The above names are groups that actually did gigs but there are a lot more.

In college a friend and I were the booking staff for a local joint that wanted live music every night of the week. Bands worked for the door and got frustrated cause they couldnt bring people so he and I had a few friends that would fill in the empty slots which was ussually 3-4 a week. I got to play with a lot of people that way. We did this for 2 straight years, we had a different name everytime we played. It was a great learning experience.

Hello from across the pond,
Well in little old England you might expect us to lead rather sheltered backward lives... seems to be true:
First at 15 one school band with a long forgotten name.
At 17 played lead guitar in Triad... yes a three-piece.
At 19 joined a south London band called Careless; a few gigs but mostly just practiced as we played our own stuff.
Then 21 joined a working covers band called Prey as replacement lead for their marrying guitarist.
Stopped at 25 to devote my life to sex and flying, and not till 45 years was I in a band again, though just recording and relegated to bass as well.
Now at 52 years I am back on six strings and loving it more than ever... with even a couple of my own songs on this site's profile.

So what was the answer in numbers of bands? 3 or 4 I guess?
Cheers,
Mark D Phillips....................

hmm.

about 10. I (used to) usually stick around til they throw me out or the band dissolves completely. Lesson learned.
