Well I'm gearing up here for a cover of Gimme Shelter, and I've read the accounts of some strange amp and the tremolo on that intro rhythm guitar, but listening to the track thru headphones, I hear an odd slapback thing going on on the right channel that seems to only echo the ATTACK of that guitar. It's really unusual, and I'd be interested in other people's take on what the hell is going on there.

Learning exactly how something was done and duplicating the sound is okay I guess, but wouldn't it be better to play the song the way YOU want to play it? I played with a guitar player in a cover blues band and we HAD to get each song sounding EXACTLY like the original even to the point when we gigged we changed amp settings between EVERY song. The way we do covers now is listen to the song a few times and just play it. Freedom of musicial interpretation, you gotta love it. Later...
