Noisy Kung Fu,
Just listening to you songs and really liking them.
Just loved, 'Rising Inside Me'; excellent off the wall drum break and return to main theme again... okay, all the religious bit doesn't go so well with a Jewish atheist like me, but beautifully sung with a real tone of belief not sloopy seudo religious platitudes.

"All that really matters" is nice, except to be quite brutally honest, for a truely lame guitar solo that spoils the effect rather.

I was going to ask in 'Rising Inside Me'; that bass on the return after the drum solo: a huge range of octaves it sounds... is it a multi stringed bass! I mean more than four?

'Noise Pollution'... Hmmm... probably the less said of this one the better; I mean great in its way, but sounds like a cliche with the music and words.

'Life Comprise' sounds like it might fall into the same traps as 'Noise Pollution', but doesn't I think; despite similar sounds it finds a charm in the grinding guitar lines and over the top voice proclaiming something half audible about Jesus Christ.

'A New Way To Live'... well, it's okay, and actually I think it would grow on me in time; a bit bum chak bum chak on the drums.

In all the songs the instruments are well played... except for that dreadful guitar solo in 'All That Really Matters'... but in a wider sense I think the voice makes it all work; and where a song doesn't work as well it is probably that the song hasn't brought out the best in the singer.

I am no expert, but you can consider this mail high praise from someone who is as not into God stuff as it is possible to be.
I bet there are a lot of guys who do God, who will be so relieved you are creating your style of God-rock as an alternative to the sloppy maple syrup brigade!
Shalom my friends, and keep it going, even if there is no God up there!
Best wishes,
Mark D Phillips..................

Thanks Mark.
I do appreciate an honest critique of our work.
It can only help me to grow as a guitarist.
Sorry but that crappy solo, yes thats me  struggling to play lead. I,ve only been at this six string thing a couple of years and that being one of our oldest tunes I have not ventured to update the lead any.
I wrote "Risin" on a lumber recept off the floorboard of my jeep after getting home around 0200 following a brutal 36hrs in the hospital (I,m a nurse) The boys made a song out of it the next evening. Eric has mutiple Basses as he is the only Pro. in the band. Usually plays 5 strings.
All our original music is inspired, and a group effort for lyrics and music.
No we dont fit the look at the floor or cealing and sing in vibrato Christian norm. Bit of a renegade am I, and the boys, well they are all my brothers of different mothers. 8)

Jewish atheist

oh man, someones gotta pick up on that one...

and, why pray tell, would one not drop the "Jewish" portion of that moniker?
The contradiction is overbearing!

Cmon man, fess up...what gives..tell us your story

DO you wear your yamokah (spelling?) when you don't pray to God? Were you bar-mitzvahed and didn't become a man? Did you go through any rites of passage for nothing? Do you celebrate Yom Kippur and atone for nothing? On Passover does God pass over your house and say "at least he's Jewish"? I thought Jews gave the world one God. They were the ones who introduced the concept anyway. So your ancestors introduced us to the real God but you don't believe in God. I no understand. Later...

Now come on dudes. He gave me a good honest critique.
Perhaps his being Jewish is like me being German. Not all the Jewish / Hebrew people are of the Jewish faith. Christianity is on the rise among the Jewish people. Many Jews through history have converted to Islam.
I appreciate the fact that Mark did not just write off our music because of religion. He listened. After all thats all I really want.

I don't feel like anybody was ragging him. It just really piques my curiosity. I mean why not just call yourself atheist?

c'mon guys....he did an honest music critique. Isn't that one of the main reasons we put music up on this site? let's not turn this in to a theological debate and just take it for what it is. I know that for the religious, god is part of nearly every waking thought, but for many people it is not an issue one way or another. if you only see value in the opinion of those who think the way you do, well that a great way to shrink your world. some call people like that...."haters"

so ya didn't see the Scare Jew eh.....hilarious!

Ok Paul, yes the double identifier caught my attention as well. I was like man is he confused or what?
I was more interested in his critique I guess therefore it did not stand out.
You know I will be the first to call someone on the Afro-American, Latin-American, Asian-American etc. nonsense. Hell just being an American is enough for a mut like me. Christian agnostic!

Mr. Phillips I take your comments somewhat a little offensive,
while I believe you to be a gentleman, I must say I think you have spent a little to much time out in that beautiful English Countryside.
I have checked out your site and would like for you to check out mine.
I would like to offer you my constructive criticism.
Dude spend another 20 years paying your dues before you get on a forum like this where professionals that actually get paid to play music, before offering your half ass inexperienced prejudiced opinions that I for one can do without!

Mr. Phillips, when I wrote my previous post, I had not read these other post's I was really responding to the other post on another thread from earlier this afternoon to where you called George Mr. Shoe Leather, at first I had read your critique of George's music on this thread, and that peaked my interest, when someone does that I have to see what their abilities are and when I heard your playing I thought WTF but still I always try to be optimistic so I in my mind gave you the benefit of the doubt, and Mr. Shoe Leather according to you asked you a nice question of how far into the country you live and which part of the wonderful country of England you are from and how he didn't like to travel without his S & W and in your condescending tone you told him on a U.S forum basically how England is better than the U.S. I believe it was 10,000 people die in the U. S. and something like 69 die in England comparatively due to gun violence.
So in response to these statements I must retract my earlier statement that I believe you to be a gentleman. I now believe you are not a GENTLEMAN. f**k OFF

Hello everyone,
And sorry to have ruffled so many feathers, it was not my aim, and perhaps I was led astray by thinking this was a site where you could speak openly... in the UK it is something we pride ourselves on, and I had assumed the States was similar; I am still on a learning curve here!

So you mention the professional musicians on the site and how in awe I should be: is that to say the rest of us humble nobodies can only voice thoughts if we check it out with them first?

Most of the thoughts posted on the site seem quite tongue in cheek... I used the prefix of being a Jewish Atheist as a dig at myself; something the Brits do easily, but maybe our cousins across the pond take themselves much more seriously... or maybe this site like most has people who only join it to wait underground like trolls, then to jump out and make attacks to bolster their egos.

Being Jewish is nothing like being Christian; in the main you become a Christian after gaining a belief in God; to be Jewish your mother must be of Jewish blood, it doesn't require a belief in God, and you cannot un-Jew yourself, even if religion is something quite foreign to you.
I believe my family settled in London from central Europe at a time when there was growing persecution and unless you were really heavily into the religious aspects of it you prefered to fade into London life and keep quiet about it.

So the proposition is that I ought to just F***k off to the country that you feel I rate over the USA?
I have never been to the States, but I value our friendship and take a pride in what comes from the States feeling we have some stake in it too... as I don't in fact feel with France, Germany etc.

Yes of course if you and I were asked which country is the best, we would both say "ours is!"; and as a Brit I would then follow it with something that really slagged the UK off because that is how we handle things over here.

I know this doesn't apply to all of you... but I am quite shocked by this to find how prickly and unconfident some of you guys are of yourselves... a bit of across the pond banter and teddy bears are being thrown into corners!
Anyway, I suppose I should give you a while to calm down!

But thanks to Noisy Kung Fu, I loved your stuff and couldn't just be sugary nice about everything... sorry that lead solo evoked my rudeness, but the song really deserves to have you lay that guitar track again as I bet a fresh approach will bring out the energy in it.

I will creep away and shut up now guys!
Thanks for reading my defence,
Mark...............
ps. A crap and very secular song writer!

sanshouheil

Sorry Guys, but hello again,
I didn't explain something: someone said I was trying to offend 'Sanshouhiel'.
I had found no other name except that, while being someone myself who alway uses people's real names if I can, and I read it as being French thinking it said 'no shoe heel', so instead of addressing him as Mr Shoe heel, just for fun I changed it to Mr Shoeleather... I didn't think I would be starting world war three!
Still the unforgiven?
