I'm an oregon resident just looking to have a good time. I'm a female vocalist looking for a band that will let me in. I've never been in a band before, but it's my dream! I'm new to this site, so how can I find a band looking for a new member?

Welcome to Bandmix Opal.
There are several tutorial post in reguard to finding a band posted throughout the Forum.
A brief over veiw.
1 If you intend to use Bandmix as part of your search you will need to post some audio of yourself on your site. This will allow prospective members opportunity to determine if you fit their need.
I visited you site and I have no idea what you can do or what you expect.
2 You will need to use the search function almost daily. Contact everyone in you area, irriguardless of their genre'. Nont expect immediate results.
It takes a lot of time and energy.
3 Get off the computer and get out to where people are playing. Meet and greet as many people as you can. (Beware af preditors who just want you for your pretty uh, uh, face, ya thats it)
4 Go to open mic events and sing sing sing.
In the end it's all about effort and contacts and effort.
Did I mention effort?
Best of luck.

That's probably the best advice you can get. Oh, and make sure you get yourself on MySpace, too. That's pretty much a must these days.

Myspace sucks. Try some other "free" sites such as Craig's List. And definitely follow sanshouheil's advice. Good luck.

As much as I hate to say this - and believe me, I really HATE to say it - you can keep up your chops & get used to performing in front of ppl at your local karaoke bar. Choose your material carefully, & make sure that the original key fits your range whenever possible. Do some research, & discover your preferred keys to sing comfortably in, so you can communicate with the ppl you wish to work with. Do all you can to learn as much as you can about your craft.

Acquire a cheapo keyboard & learn a bit of playing skills. This will help you learn basic music skills, & help you to communicate with others.

Going to open mics will help you meet real musicians, & some of them may want a singer. Also check into your local music stores & talk to the salesmen & music teachers there for leads. Advertise on your community bulletin boards at the colleges or even supermarkets in your area. When meeting ppl for the 1st few times, take a friend along & keep things as public as possible, as far as the setting goes, for safety reasons.

I wish that were true, but for the current music scene, just about everyone and their mother (quite literally speaking) is on there, and tonnes of bands and musicians are looking for people to play with.

priceless.

open mics are a FANTASTIC way to network with other musicians, even if you don't perform, you can approach and compliment people after they do and it can really pay off.

Yeah myspace sucks but it's assumed that if you're a musician you will have one. It's not just another place to park music, I use it for getting gigs, networking with other bands and keeping fans informed.

Definitely do open mics; try to hit all in your area, don't just go to one. You will learn a lot, sharpen your stage skills and network.

I've got a myspace page with just about nothing on it. I guess if we get our crap together and get into a studio and do a SERIOUS CD we'll probably get a Myspace page for the band, but I would rather stay off it. There's something creepy about getting a picture of some chick's butt sent to me by ten different women (the exact same butt picture) and then almost every time I go on myspace (which is about twice a year) somebody's got a CRUSH on me. I guess to know me is to love me. Later...

Bob, it's called spam. Delete them and start inviting people to add you. You'll get a following. Especially, if you keep your page updated.
