I actually do happen to agree that messaging and contacting other members should not be a paying feature. Despite the anger issue, he's right: In this age, funding websites via advertisements is the way to go. Actually, with as much traffic as this site gets, the people in charge could probably make a good deal of money that way.
In fact, I might be so bold as to say that the primary reason I even came to the forum was that it was an alternative to wasting my money on something like that. I can guarantee you guys are putting off and excluding a good deal of musicians because there's a cost for networking on this site. Since, I've found that the reason I've decided to stay here isn't for the original purpose I came in the first place. Whether that's good or bad, I'll have to see.
I do know one thing for sure: There are free-to-user alternatives, and I do not think that paying for that is a worthy investment, when I need to be spending my precious but piddling amount of cash on already overpriced equipment and instruments.
