Dudes,

Bottom line, this site costs money to operate. 9 dollars a month that can be canceled at any time. I know that the economy is terrible, but pay 9 dollars and give it a whirl for a month or two. If you could find musicians on MySpace, then you would have already.

I am a software engineer. I have constructed applications such as this. Think of the time and money it costs to do this. It takes the following:

Developers: At least a team of 5 for something like this including QA.
Developers: 75,000/ Year on average

Database Administrator: Two at a minimum
DBA: At least 90,000 / Year on average

Graphic Designer: Can be outsourced at a rate of 100 dollars/hour
GD: 10K/Year

Probably at least $500,000.00 in staffing alone.

Then you get into operational costs, the others are just salaries.

Webserver Clusters:
Database Servers:
Load Balancing Equipment:
ISP:
T1 or T3 dataline to handle traffic through their data center.
Server Liscence fees (Microsoft, Oracle, Sun, Redhat, etc)
Storage Area Network Servers: You upload your music to somewhere.. That is expensive.

To run a multinational operation, could cost a million or so just in operating costs.

The point is, nothing is for free. I pay for this site because it is the best offering on the market for what I am trying to accomplish. Just because you can reach this site with a web browser, does not mean that it is not costing someone a great deal of money.

Join up and enjoy the ride. If you do not like it, unsubscribe.

Thanks,

J

Don't really know their development and production structure, just an at a glance assessment. For all I know this all being done in India for 1/3 of the cost. Just trying to introduce some cost analysis and logical reasoning. Really a wasted effort. This feakin' site needs to not have this thread as the top post on the entry page if you ask me. It is a complete diversion from doing something good with this resource.

Good luck to you guys either way. I am out... :D
