I just don't get this site. No disrespect intended but you bill the site as a classified services yet once you find someone who looks interesting and you hit the contact but you say we have to pay to use that feature. So for $60 bucks a year you get

* Unlimited contact with other members
* Chat Online
* Promotion on our Front Page in the featured artist section.
* More Images (up to 20)
* More Audio or Video Files (up to 25MB)

$60 bucks a year is about 1/2 of the price for full hosting with 750GB bandwidth/mo and 15 GB Disk space. If I already pay a hosting service why would I want to pay an extra $60 bucks for limited disk space and a page I can't customize let alone embed HTML to format things right.

I say this because I would not mind paying a modest fee for the communication part of it but the rest of the services are a duplication for me. I already have my site looking the way I want it.

Anyway I'm torn on using this site. Sometimes it seems like it has a lot of promise and other times....

I hear everything your saying there Bass, For what little you get here ...re....It seems alittle Pricey for what Little there's to be had...
No cutting intended Bandmix... However, the yearly level is too much
When you pay less for an DSL ISP has alot more for the bang for the buck. I'm just a new observer checking this gig out...Man I don't
want to marry her...Heck $30 a year would bring more activity here...
Just my two cents...

Hello,

The primary benefit that you receive as a premier member is the ability to initiate contact with other members. Free members can always respond to any inquiries sent to them, however you must upgrade to initiate a contact. The additional features we feel are useful and beneficial but are more secondary to the contact functionality. We are not trying to replace your web site, just help you hook up with other musicians and help them find you.
Musician and Band Profiles do not have to upgrade for an entire year ($59.95), they can opt into the month to month plan at $9.95.

Hope this helps.

Sorry, but not being able to message anyone without a premier membership just blows. The whole reason I joined this site was to find a drummer. I've found lots, I just can't talk to any of them. That makes this site kinda pointless.

I'm not about the pay any amount of money for a site that hasn't proven to me that it works.

I was trying to find a way to politely say that but I guess you hit the nail on the head.

I was just wondering why you guys did not go with google/yahoo business model which charges to remove adds.

Like Bandmix is supposed to provide all these services for free????!!! Would you rather endure endless popups and clogged webpages full of ads or endless business ads like Craig's List? Not me. It's worth $10 to me to find several possible bandmembers in an easy to use streamilined interface. (I've found 2 so far) The nice part is you can check out who's available and decide if it's worth paying or not. It's like and employment or a dating service (which BTW charge money too) If you want the service pay for it, if you don't, don't. Just don't complain about an apparently successful business model because it doesn't fit your idea of what it should be.

Um, yes they do...the employer pays a fee. Guess who the "employer" is on Bandmix.

Ya got me there. But on those sites there is a clear definition of the roles. Here there is a charge all roles mentality which is like apples and oranges.

I guess if you had an established band then that would make sense but if you are just one guy like me looking to find a band, or people to play with, to me that does not seem worth the money.

Yeah, it's all relative. It could be worth it if you found a great band or some players in your area that you wouldn't have known about otherwise. Or if you didn't then it wouldn't. I did an extensive search for players to see if there were enough prospects on here to justify paying for one month. I'll contact more in the next few weeks even if they're not recently active to get my money's worth. You might try Bandtastic too, although I haven't had any luck there but it's free.

i think that, pretty plainly, people join the site to look for other musicians or bands.

so, the only time you actually need to message someone is when you finally find them. all the time in between (the big big majority of the time), is spent just looking, which is free.

so who wants to pay for a year, hell, even a month, when all you need is literally ONE message to exchange screen names or email addresses?

which means, theres not even a reason to pay until you find that person. so, basically, when you find that person, youd have to pay $10 just to message them.

doesnt sound like much of a deal to me...

I personally feel the option to pay a nominal fee on a monthly basis is a great choice (a full year is not necessary). If one were to take the time and thoroughly fill out their profile, including photos and audio MP3s (if available) ,then this in it's self becomes a valuable tool. Once you're listed under the main instrument you play then others can get a better handle on your level of playing ability. Every time I've searched for either bands or musicians I have received several responses (I'm currently looking for a bass player in the Chicago area). Living in or near a big city vs in small town USA I guess would be another reason to determine if it's worthwhile spending the money. Remember you can browse by state then do an advance search for specific musicians and or music styles that you're looking to hook up with.

Thats a big IF. 90% of all the profiles I've seen have no pictures or audio files. I guess people don't realize that a snippet of a jam, show or just playing by yourself is good enough. It's not like it has to be demo quality.

Still I'd be more happy (and inclined to pay) if we could do some basic wiki/bbcode/html editing so we can format things better. Changing line breaks to brs is not really formating
