Yeah, usually when they look like that they hurt a bit, and I wanna stop playing.
They don't bleed very often - I think only twice this year.
But the calluss is pretty thick - it takes a hell of a pounding on an acoustic guitar to make them look like that . . . maybe once every 4-5 days . . .
Sometimes a chunk will rip loose and be hanging, and then I cut it off with nail-clippers, and it sounds just like a toe-nail being clipped. Pretty hard stuff; more like bone than skin . . .

I just did a wiki on on it and it looks like you're right SP. My brain musta shifted the order to reading L->R thru the years...

I vaguely recall binary numerics from 7th grade, and that was in the EARLY 60,s for me! It may be that the remainder of that glorious decade has left an adverse effect on the ol' grey matter and I have developed a bit of dyslexia. I'm still goin' with my first equation until we get more input.

I must admit, however, that I have forgotten most of the calculus that I never learned.
