But... after 10 years or so I finally sat down to write a song (insruments, lyrics, vocals and all- today, and (of course) as far as I got was the intro... (8 hours worth of work for 40 seconds- I'd forgotten how long it takes to write a song) I was going to wait until the final product, but at this rate it'll be a year or so before I finish this song.. (kidding--i hope) and-- just wanted to share what I've done so far (all 40 seconds of it ) not even in good shape, yet (clicks and buzzes-rough draft-rough mix) but... it's here at "intro to song X " at:
http://bandmix.com/zxyz/
.. please let me know whatcha-all think... its got a long way to go, of course, but the plans are in my head... at least for tonite...I hope they don't go away..
Also.. by the time the bass line came around I'd had a couple of shotz and a glass of wine... or 3... :D so maybe sloppyz....
but.. it's fun writing music again.. it's been a long time.. THANKS Y'ALL for the inspiration!!!!

I think you have some good ideas there...I listened to all of your tracks, and I like 'em (although I do feel a pretty heavy 80's influence-no offense). I would definitely be interested in hearing them develop into a complete work.

Keep it up! :D

I like it , Z, but I think you're stuck in a time-loop. I can understand hitting that brick wall while writing.

Have you ever tried 5/4? Messing around in different sigs used to help me when I got stuck on something. Suddenly, a whole new idea popped into my headbone & I was off & running.

Thanks for the replies you-all. Hmm, food for thought. Yeah I do like 70s-80s and 4/4 time I guess/ After I finish this one I'll try tp break out a lil' bit. Maybe I'll do some rap (kidding) (no offence to any rappers out there)
or hip-hop(ditto) - just messin.. I do 'preciate the input.

He aint no fool - gonna rap alone
Checkn his package - hangin round home
Time to change - no, four to four
Hit it a lick - she's there to score.

I think it is going to be a great song. When I write, some songs take an hour to get the chord structure, vocal melodies and words, and sometimes it takes months, a couple of songs I have written without an instrument even in my hands and one I just finished writing I got the idea while driving to work and when I got to work I finished it in about 20 minutes. I have found there is no real formula to songwriting and every song has a different writing process and I tend to write what comes out. It is real hard for me to be artistic while setting down with a guitar a writing tablet in front of the computer and say today I am going to write a certain type of song. When the idea comes it is like a well spring and I just go for it. Now the recording process is a whole different story.

Yeah having almost forgotten what all is involved, I kind of had to make myself sit down and say I'm gonna write a song,, not the best way to do it, but inpiration or 'that tune in my head' usually comes at the worst time- when I dont have a recorder, and even when I do sometimes I cant make any sense out of it :\ ..And I've been lazy, too  everybody here knows what a time-sink recording is and how much work it is.

I once read some good advice- "After recording, dont try to mix and master, after all, you just spent all day laying down the tracks and your tired, get some sleep and do the mixing and editing tomorrow"

I agree with all of that.
