I have read some opinions related to dress style.
I would like for a moment to explore more opinions on how you or how to dress while playing live.
What does your apperence say that your music does not?
And in what ways do they relate or reflect one another?

When I played in the blues band, I wore black pants & a black or dark blue button-down shirt, sometimes with a black button-brim hat.

When I play in Flamingo Road, I wear daishikis or hawaiian shirts, for some reason.

When I played in the bluegrass band I wore my "blues clothes," just to set myself apart from the jeans & bibs & flannels that my bandmates wore. I think it annoyed them, but they never said anything about it, cuz at least I was neat & clean looking.

When I play solo, I just go sorta casual, for the most part, unless it's a special occasion.

I often wear funny t-shirts & such at open mics.

When I MC'd a big act happening locally, I wore a tux with a top hat, even when I opened for them. It was scratchy & hot & uncomfortable as hell, too.

I chose "Depends On The Venue"

It really does.

If this wedding band thing EVER gets off the ground. I will have to dress up for it. Other than that, bar scene...jeans (nice ones) or cords, high heel boots or shoes (never sneakers) sexy but not over the top sleazy shirt or sweater.

First impressions are the lasting ones. They see you FIRST, then they hear you.

Get their attention with your look, keep their attention with your sound.

Man ! Whats the "look" of a rockin stiff?
Should I dress as the Pope or a Gung Fu Master?
Rhetorical Questions.
Interesting points of veiw.
Our Band dresses casual for the most part, but hey its an alternative / gunge band. I suppose if we were playing Madison Square or something equivelent I might dress up a bit.
Seems to me I cannot physically get into the show as well in my dress combat boots as opposed to wearing sneakers.

Good input.

Anyone else?

I was just stating from a woman's point of view (or really should say from my point of view).

I personally feel more comfortable when I know I look my best. Whatever that may be for that day or night. It helps my confidence level to a certain degree. I also have to be comfortable, and I am when I am in dressy clothes, "business casual" or even jeans. I am never comfortable in, say, flip flops. But that is just me.

What may work for me may not work for someone else.

Jeans and a decent shirt/pull-over, depending on the weather/location.
Don't like it? Your problem. I'm clean and relatively pleasant

I believe you need to have "a look"
any look but have one!
you need the audiences attention and it help to give you more "presence"

just my opinion.....

Black is the musician's color. Whenever I am performing it is almost always in black. It can be dressing or a tad casual depending on the venue, but black works for everything. Now when I am laying for like a Christmas concert, I may wear my black chiffon pants and a white top...more formal occasions require my black chiffon dress with black hose and stillettos  Time for my Sasha Fierce mode. However, if I am playing in the bar, I just go to be comfortable in jeans and tennis shoes.

sans - guessing from what I know about you, & the name of your band, I think you should always wear those pj-lookin' things that the kung-foo/karate guys wear - what's it called - a GI? Like in ganja-gi? But only wear that outfit if you have earned the black belt, cuz that's the onliest one that would impress anybody. If you can't wear the black belt, then simply don your black holster & fill it with your favorite brewski!

Don't dress up anything special. Usually fishing shirt, levi's, work boots, some fishing baseball hat (Cabellas, Mepps, Stren, whatever). I want to feel relaxed. If I got all duded up I wouldn't feel like my normal self. I'm not trying to be anything other than a fisherman who gets lucky and plays for people once in a while.

Philby - wearing a Gi in public is EXTREMELY uncool . . .
.
