What a difference a software makes.

I'll post a short tomorrow. I'm sure musically apart just the sound now is much more in line with what people can listen too. Trouble is EACH MISTAKE is now audible.

Good fun though, enjoying every minute of it.

Thanks for the feedback people.
Cheers

You know so much about this stuff Sentient thanks again for your help. I'll bare that in mind too regarding keyboards. I don't have much choice really until I've mastered adding Midi to an analog mix. I'll get there sometime soon hopefully. At least I am at square one again and now have a clean slate to work with. I've decided quite madly to assign characters to my instruments as follows.

Bassist Chippy - Influences - Mark King (UB42) / Frankie goes to Hollywood, some off the wall stuff if he can manage to play it?
-
Guitarist Chippy - Influences - Ska/Reggae/Punk/Steve Hacket/Daryl Stuermer: Just too many to mention, whatever sounds good.
-
Drums Chippy - Influences - Phil Collins/Louie Bellson/Chester Thompson, anything offbeat.
-
Keyboards Chippy - Influences - New Age/Piano - Anything surreal and strange sounding.
-
Vocals Chippy - Influences - Hard to say really, gray area. There are a lot of good female singers but he isn't female. We'll have to see how he does or he will get the sack quickly.
-
Lead Guitar - We haven't got one. This is the place where the band may fall down. Chippy can play lead but never the lead he wants to play.
-
Additional instruments? Probably played by Chippy where there is a need.

General style will be of perhaps a progressive/symphony rock at some point which can change direction hopefully.

Now then If you didn't think I was mad before you are somewhere near it now.

Thanks again Sentient.
Best regards.

Sentient Paradox wrote:Low keyboard frequencies in particular, especially if they aren't "crisp" voices. A lot of "stock" keyboard voices cover a wide band of frequencies, and can wreak havoc on the low end.

My advice is "use sparingly" and stay away from chords down there. (with those "mungy" voices in particular)

If you're going to use them, try to use them either alone, or with a minimal of other instruments sharing those frequencies.

Agreed in part but now I have to prove that I can play, keep time and create.

This is a very long road.

Scary isn't it Sentient. :D

I like people like you who think about their writing without getting paunchy and stiff about it.

Music is free flowing and addictive. It should never be discounted as it was in the early days when traveling bands wandered with kindred and all manner of acts on a stage and for the most part laughed at but enjoyed.

Doesn't that sound nice.

There is magic in that, so there is.
Thanks Sentient.

Sentient Paradox wrote:That looks just like my line up!
Just substitute my name for Guitars and vocals, and "Sequenced by Chris Richard" for all the rest!

Even Lead Guitar would read pretty much the same.

Hey, at least you can play all the parts!

Apologies for dropping my great bassist somewhere in here and for the language too, (Singer).

This came about from a dream I had, yeah..... There were leaflets detailing the story on tables at every venue.

I Co wrote this with Joss who could play anything from a fiddle to a chicken drumstick and who was a poet too this was where my old band was leading.

It's LIVE there are screw ups and in what we thought was an uninterested bar. The file itself is a FLASH file recorded some 10 years or more ago.

My site isn't yet complete but I hope to have that corrected soon so ignore the huge thingy.

Anyway................

This is me and I like it.
Thanks too to my band who were great mates and in constant contact.

I'd just like to add that I am proud of this band who had NO boundaries. It's a beautiful thing.

It's going better now.

Learning of course. Lots of HISS at first then you learn that each instrument has different properties.

Two weeks in and at last nearing the end of the first phrase. I call it that because that is what it is.

Tough being several people too, they re all ME!

Hiss and High patches are holding me back at the moment.

Hi Sentient.
Your encouragement is really appreciated. I found a wonderful site that explains a lot of what goes wrong in studios which also carries a bag load of tips for anyone willing to read it.

http://www.johnvestman.com/studio_monitor_madness.htm

I think I know where my hiss is coming from apart from volume knobs on guitars etc - wires. My place is a mess right now since I just want this to get as completed as I can then look deeper into all of it.

Once complete I'm not really sure what to do with it quite frankly? Follow my hunches and my faith or just post it and forget about it, start something new.

Anyway thanks very much indeed, you are an inspiration to all of us learning the hard way.

Best regards.

Can't wait to hear it when you get it all together! Two weeks? Blink, and it'll be a year, and you'll wonder at all you've not only learned, but at what you figured out on your own too.

Hi there folks.
Well I am rearranging the studio a lot over this Xmas. The first plan of my very first concept track can be heard here:
http://chipfryer.com/muso

I would really appreciate some feedback before I start the long haul on this project. My site is as yet incomplete but behind the scenes things are starting to shape up a little.

I don't mind if you hate it, don't understand it but would really
like your general opinions on it please....

To access the area you will need this login information:

Thanks very much folks.
Cheers

Right on Chippy.

The timing could be a latency problem. Look around your software for latency correction. In Cubase for instance there is a correction setting for that.

Some sound cards do not report the latency to the recording software correctly, and the software plops the wave just slightly out of timing. This way what you play ends up on the record just a little late, a few milliseconds late. This is also true for MIDI.
