What bothers me about the electoral vote is this, I am sure someone will correct me if I am wrong, Bush won his first election by electoral vote. More people voted against him but he still won. I don't like the fact that each state has a fixed number for the electoral vote. Why can't we, in this day and age, count the ACTUAL votes?

Damn I hate politicians, politics, and discussions that keep going around and around. Hmm that sounds like a politician...keep circling the issue, eventually you confuse the person asking the question and the original question never gets answered.

Several states are already starting the rumours that the machines are fallible, that the counts may end up being wrong - more to distrust & be concerned about, eh?

The electoral college is a joke in this day & age, & an insult to each & every American citizen.

I've seen interviews with one guy who said that no matter who his district votes for, he will vote for Obama. THIS is someone who's supposed to vote with his district, to represent them? It's all so frikken stooopit I don't know why ANY of us even bother, sometimes...I think it's way past time for a huge overhaul of the entire system, from the election process onward.

Of course I can understand why some ppl think we still need the electoral college when I hear things like this - http://www.yikers.com/video_rednecks_and_politics.html

"This woman breaks the mold. Can't have that."

Yes, she sure does. She would be the first vice-president in our history to "run the Senate".

They've got to have a copy of the constitution around there somewhere. Republicans are always professing how much they love this country, I'm sure they know that document front and back.

Or maybe they're too busy spending $150,000 shopping to make Caribou Barbie look good on TV (as she puts her foot in her mouth again, in her stylish red leather top). No wonder they wouldn't let her do any interviews.

Sorry, I can't sugar coat this turd. She couldn't fit in Hillary's pantsuits. Palin is too dumb and too dangerous to be that close to being the leader of the most powerful (still) country in the world. I'm counting on most sensible Americans to also see it that way.

She's not in Hillary's league. Who said that she was? Not me.

Dumb? That's where irrationality ruins a reasonable argument on your part.

Are you dumb enough to be elected Governor of your state? Dumb enough to be the most popular governor in America? Dumb enough to breath life into John McCain's campaign and give him a shot, when he should not even be in the game?

America could use more of that kind of stupidity.

Many people confuse intelligence and capability with sophistication. Palin is a very intelligent woman. She would rise to meet any challenge presented. She is clearly not well informed on international issues. But she is also the kind of person that would learn in 3 months what it would take most of us a year or two. I think I am a very good judge of intelligence and character in people. She'd make a better president or vice president, than George Bush, Dan Quayle, Jimmy Carter or maybe even Joe Biden? He's certainly more experienced and polished, and yet he shoots himself in the foot all the time with his own words. Plus she is more honest, and probably more faithful to her core values than he is. He's a pretty decent politician, but he's a politician nonetheless.

She's getting a bum rap folks.

I have watched video of Obama talking about visiting 57 states so far. 57 he said, and was about to go to the 58th he told the crowd. No one corrected him, and he didn't catch his error, even though he repeated it several times.

Does that make Obama "dumb"? For the life of me, I don't understand, even with exhaustion, why someone would say over and over that they had visited 57 states, but clearly he is not an idiot merely because he made such an incomprehensible statement, as evidenced by his other statements and appearances we have seen.

I have seen alot of video of Palin in debates and in interviews, all before she was nominated for VP. She is relaxed, intelligent, and in control. One of the things that stands out to me, is that she is the same at home as she is in office. There is no front persona, no politician. She's real. This is evident from the documentary she was a part of. The director followed her around for two solid days, hours and hours, upon hours and hours, and he said that usually when he films politicians or people in office, he'll catch things, misspoken words or actions, just changes. He said he was impressed at how real and down to earth she was. She was the same at home with the kids as she was in a meeting in government. He said she balanced everything so perfectly, that it was amazing to see. She could maintain her professionalism and her familial roles at the same time, without either seeming to suffer for the other.

This is a worldly "sophisticated" city dweller, filming her, as he has, dozens of others, yet SHE impressed him, and made an enduring impression, when he orbited her world for two days.

You may not like her politics, and we can agree that she is not as informed on international politics as any of the other three candidates. But clearly also, she is a very intelligent, capable and accomplished woman.

She may be many things, but dumb? Dumb is not one of them.

They must.

And hopefully they'll give Joe Biden a copy, since in his debate with Palin, he stated that it was Article 1 of the Constitution that sets forth the roles and responsibilities of the Vice President, when in fact, it is both Article 1 and Article 2 that address the VP's roles, but PRIMARILY Article 2. Additionally, he stated that Article 1 of the Constitution deals with the executive branch and therfore lays out the responsibilities of Vice President, when in fact it is Article 2 that goes into detail on this, since Article 2 enumerates the powers of the executive Branch of government.

Article 1 deals with the Legislative Branch of government, but this where it is stated that the VP will be "President of The Senate", casting any tie-breaking votes. That's the only mention, that I am aware of, of any Vice Presidential role in Article 1.

But then, Joe Biden has not only lied his ass off during this election, but gotten many simple historical facts wrong as well. But then, he's not a pro-life woman either, is he?

Joe gets a pass... hell, he gets a hundred.

Well, many Americans are beginning to wake up to this reality somewhat. It would require a constitutional amendment to change it though. That would require alot of pressure on our elected officials, and a firm sense of unity among voters that we are DEMANDING this, or voting them out of office. There may be enough outrage to accomplish this about now. But sadly our memories are too short as Americans sometimes.

But you are absolutely right. In this modern age, the citizens are far more informed (or they can be if they choose) on the issues. It's time to reconsider the electoral college.

I've had to exist on whatever my insurance brought me before, & I can tell you that those payments don't need taxing! Reagan was the 1st guy to tax any insurance when he taxed unemployment. That is taxing money you & everyone else paid into the fund, which has already been taxed once when you all made it in the 1st place. How many times will we be expected to pay taxes on the same income?

Palin may not be dumb. I don't know enough to guess about her. I do know that she hasn't been a gov for a full term, & she's not made any points with me yet on any issue. That tells me she's a more unknown quantity that any of the rest. I'm not in the mood to take chances this time around.

I read a pro-Palin piece this morning that didn't alleviate any of my doubts at all about her. Seems the greatest things she's done is to choose a qualified staff while she does interviews & photo ops.

McCain's making far too many mistakes right now for me to have any confidence in him at all. Some decisions in the Oval Office cannot be reversed, like so many he's reversing in the election process.

Biden's a twit, in my book.

Obama doesn't represent me in many ways, but he's at least not a nervous nellie, nor is he praying on my paranoia. Ppl who do that can never ever be trusted. Just look at what we have now!

I'm also impressed with his low-profile take on the dropping out temporarily for his personal prob's with his grandmother's illness. He didn't do a grandstand speach like McCain about how he has to "take care of things." He seems like a more low-key, careful guy than the ever impudent, often offensive, & always impulsive McCain (who's making a huge mistake by using his version of aged machismo instead of calm cool approaches to the issues at hand, wherever & whatever they may be).

I swear this just seems so surreal to me. We have an old guy who's acting like an overeager teenager to handle the world's problems with violence, tough talk & action, facing off the young guy who's taking the traditionally more mature approach to it all, like a man of wisdom & experience, which goes contrary to the fact of his age & time in office. Yet it's the older approach from the young man, the calm cool head, that will prevail with me, over the old guy who's acting like he's getting overdoses of testosterone every time he debates or orates.

And considering McCain's age & health history, as well as the unknown quantity Palin, well, when it's added to the above, it's becoming a no-brainer for me.

Hillary Clinton is a selfish socalist pig. We should burn her pants suits and deport her ass to France or China. Or perhaps prison for the money she stole and the people she had killed in whitewater.
