Hey, thought you might like to know, north Louisiana is having a Celtic Festival this weekend in Monroe.

Here's a link to info

Sorry I didn't let you know sooner, I forgot, you probably wouldn't make a trip down here for it anyway, it's not exactly just down the street...but thought it might interest you anyway.

They have these all over, Pete. I went to one in Richmond, where I learned more about single malt Scotch than I ever wanted to. (At least now I know enough to STAY WELL AWAY from the Islay!)

It's also where I found out my family's tartan is tinky winky purple & green. I'd get a kilt but I really HATE wool as a rule, & if you don't use wool, it just looks like a Catholic girl's school skirt! Not a good fashion statement for me.

If you can see this fellow, I'm sure you'd get a kick outta the pipes, if you haven't seen em live before...

Philby: I can't stand the smell of scotch, so I've never tasted it. Just the smell makes my stomach do flip flops. Same for rum, both make me nauseous by just smelling them. I've been to a few Oktober Fests, Renaissance and various other types of festivals, blueberry and such, but didn't know Celtic fests existed till I saw the signs last week when I went to get guitar strings. It's a 30 mile drive so I don't get over there often these days, gas being expensive as it is.

Piperman: Not sure if I'll be able to make it over there as much as I'd like to check it out, the annual local Cotton Festival is also going on this weekend, I have a date planned with my best friend for Saturday night and have a couple of computers to work on too, and won't be able to afford it either.

I thought you meant bagpipes when I first read your post, before checking out the link, and I have heard those, in Switzerland during the 70's. Never have heard this kind though, and would really like to, sounds interesting. I sure wish I had more time and money this weekend and fewer existing commitments...I'd be there.

Looking at them, they seem to be a form of bagpipes. Pretty well-made ones, too, I'd wager.

They seem to take a lot of up-keep, though. Did you check those reed prices? Gotta buy in lots?

Boy, it'd have to be a career to have & use these things.

I'm convinced, it's just the coolest, most frustrating, most beautiful , most awe-inspiring & emotionally evocative instrument we're devised yet....

Hey piper! Did you happen to catch Colbert Report last night?

Yo-Yo Ma did a lil tune with a truly awesome piper lady. I was super impressed!

Just wondering - what kind of pipes was she using?
