Just because you dont like a form of music doesnt mean its bad or not any good it just means you dont personally like it.

On a side note I never cared for Raggae much either but my feelings on it doesnt make it any less an art form.

Our bassist records rappers and Ive helped and I find it interesting, not my cup of tea, but some of these cats work a lot harder than some of the rockers I get around. Some of these rappers have great marketing ideas, and they package shows reall well. I try not to diss any form of music, I try to take something from it that I can use.

We are currently working on a heavy hip hop rock x-rated dance song to get us into the dance clubs. We are going to probably use canned drums with live drum fills. Make the song an extended grind dance number.

Any music that causes an emotion good or bad is cool with me, its the ones that Im indifferent to that I dont understand.

Some of you guys need to grow up and expand your horizons take what you like from something and make it your own, embrace it. You might be suprised at what you come up with, but the minute you close your mind down you just lost your edge.

I'll add the disclaimer that this is all my humble oipinion, and doesnt matter anyway, I am just going to keep moving forward. I used to not like disco and now I love it, go figure!

beastie boys aren't rap.

I love the beastie boys myself... I'm a huge fan. If you don't like it that's fine by me... but it is music. .
Holy crap!!! The beastie boys ARE rap ..................and rock and jazz and punk and metal. i was a huge fan for many years. I got bored later.

mistermikev wrote:not all rap is based on violence etc... that's simply not true... but some of the best rhythmic music I've ever heard was NWA and straight outta compton... yes it is offensive as all hell. but heavey metal was offensive to people too... even if offensive on a diff level..
NWA straight outta compton was huge!!! Amazing music and raps. Obnoxious lyrics but everything else was music world changing.

That was my point to Pete. He did that to his dad and butted heads because of it. Nothing has changed. That is what the kids do now too.

ya know I almost wanted to retract that as soon as I typed it.... (bboys not rap)
... it's just semantics and not even worth trying to define.

.
I wasn't alive when alice cooper came out... but I can imagine how parents thought it was 'all devil and evil and snakes and skulls'...
rap is just 'violence and drugs and yo yo yo'.

it's all good. I don't hate on any of it, altho I have on occasion talked crap about brittany spears and spice girls and such...
at least these rappers actually perform their music and wrote it themselves!

I brought home my first Alice Cooper album "Pretties for You" back in 1969!
I believe my mom liked it.

If you want to know who the first REAL rappers were, Google "The Last Poets". I'd post a link for y'all, but I'm afraid Band-Mix might kick me off the forum if I do! (I would not have been allowed to bring THEIR album into the house! Check 'em out if you dare! because 60's rap is not for the "politically correct" )

Lmao. I like Rock Rap, that is sometimes cool to listen to, like Linkin Park. Rap is music, but a lot of the time it is redundant and repetitive, and just plain out boring. But I can tell you I like songs by DMX, Usher, Ludacris, Eminem, and some others.

But for the majority I find my guitar expreses my emotions, in every format. Kind of like that Middle Eastern like piece "Off We Go" that is on my band page on myspace.

I saw a post saying Hip-Hop, not rap. Great point. Nowadays, it's all the same: gangsta rap is hip-hop and everything else. It's just a big mess. The last original rap I heard was Public Enemy. And I think their message was more important than just stage presence.

Hip-Hop in the very early 90s was at its peak. Good material, decent rhythms, and soulful beats (the beats were from the Funk - you could actually hear trumpets and saxophones  ). I can't remember names because I'm not a big fan, but the songs I listened to had true funky beats and lyrics bout serious shyt from social problems and political issues to story-telling ending-in-advice kinda rap. Now, I don't care if you disagree, but Eminem has some damn good songs. That Mockingbird song is good. Toy Soldiers, Stan (the fan), and a bunch more. THAT stuff reminded me of the 90s hip-hop (minus the funk).

Rap & rock don't mix too well, imo. The only ones who made it sound quite acceptable were Rage. But even then I didn't like the rapping. Great message, good stage presence, decent drummer and excellent guitarist, but it needed something else.

Side note: GA, I wanna know your opinion on the new MetallicA album. Shocking, eh? Personally, I think it's great. Right up there with the Black album.

I like rap. There are some artists that ruin such a poetic skill. Nevertheless, it takes talent to do it well. Rap has been around long before it was called rap. I recall listening to an opera, in my hisghschool music appreciation class, that was rapped. There was a very cool/hip jazz rap...Oooh, I will see if I can find it. But this is why I like Linkin' Park. They have that crossover ability and I am a crossover musician. I don't like rap that has taken someone elses music and jack it full of distorted lyrics. I also recall, however, hearing Iron Man sung by Ozzy Osborne with rapping included and it was a coroboration. I will be right back.

Dude, the new album is awesome. I think every song is great, but my personal favorites are:

The Day That Never Comes
Judas Kiss
Unforgiven III
Suicide And Redemption

-----------------

Or we could just say I favorite all of them, haha. But yeah, I would say it as Kirk put it," it's what would come after Justice but before Black." It is just awesome, the solos are amazing, the vocals are astounding, the drums are over the top, the bass is bloody awesome (Great going Robert!).

So yeah, that's my opinion. I am going to see them up in New York in January, well, plan on it anyhow. I should be up there by then.
