I love to play and be heard by as many people as possible. Especially the tremendous talent I've encountered on this site. Their opinion to me is worth more than all the fans who say they love my stuff but couldn't themselves play or sing anything and therefore don't know what it takes.

I read lots of great advice and comments on this site and feel lucky to have stumbled onto it.

I'd truly like to hear what makes someone want to get on this site and not want to put any music up here.

I have some of my stuff on the profile and a larger selection at

Good point about the fans. So much of the music I hear on this site is definitely professional quality I wasn't thinking about being here just for the music appreciation. This is way better than most of the sites I had been going to for listening.

There may be some fans, but I think most who don't upload music fall into three categories...

1) Lazy musicians who aren't really serious.

"Wow, here's a site for finding musicians, let me sign up real quick here, and I'll have that band I always wanted!"

"What's this? Upload music? Don't have time for that, I'll just TELL them how good I am!"

"Hmm... it's been 2 days and no one's contacted me!"

Then they forget about the site or lose interest, or decide that they really want to be astronauts instead, and start looking up NASA on Wikipedia instead! Kidding about the astronaut part. LOL

2) People who are technically challenged.

These people are intimidated by computers and/or uploading and file sizes and formats, or have trouble figuring out how to get their analog media into digital format, etc...

However, some of these people also fit into the "Lazy - Not serious" category as well, cause it is not very difficult to find a 14 year old somewhere who can help you with all of that, and if there are no 14 year olds around, there are plenty of services and studios, who charge reasonable prices to dump your stuff into digital format, hell, they'll even clean up the noise on outdated media, like cassette tapes. So, if they are serious about music, being technically challenged is not a very good excuse.

3) They suck!

We have to realize, that a few of these people suck, and they themselves know they suck, and want to hide this reality. Or maybe they don't suck, but they feel they are not really that good, and that posting the "proof", would defeat them before they got started. But maybe through making contacts, they convince someone to jam with them, feeling they have a better shot of seeing where things go in person.

A sub-category of #3 and a more reasonable excuse, is that they are novices just getting started, and therefore don't have anything to record really, cause they have just started with their instrument.

But a seasoned veteran?

Personally, I don't know alot (if any) seasoned musicians, who do not have something recorded of some performance given sometime in their past. Even those who "leave" music for awhile, usually keep any recordings they may have. But maybe they get so pissed that they trash anything having to do with their past musical endeavors? Maybe they lose everything in a natural disaster or fire? But surely this is the exception, rather than the rule.

In all honesty (no offense to anyone) there are not very many "good" excuses, in a modern age, for not getting something recorded and posted.

What would the excuses be?

No time?

What the hell are you doing trying to network with other musicians and/or form a band then? If you can't take a few hours, or even half a day to get some music recorded and posted, how would you have time for gigs or practices?

No money?

Did you log on in the library or something? Otherwise, you found a way to afford a computer, or at least the monthly price of internet access.

And if you can't afford $20 or $30 bucks or so, to get a song turned into digital, or else buy a microphone for your computer, how the hell are you gonna afford the gas to get to practice, or to your first gig with the new band?

Now, there's nothing wrong with joining because you merely want to chat and shoot the sh*t with other musicians. But if this is the case, you should have -NOTHING- checked, for "currently seeking" musicians.

There really is no excuse to have something uploaded.

BUT it certianly unclear about what to upload.

Plenty of sites these days seem to be claiming in the small print that if you upload your music onto said site, they can utilize it as they seem fit.

And I say F THAT.. If you are going to use something I upload, you better get the ok from me else I may just feel the to litigate or worse.

Sample = ok

full repetoire = HELL NO

Until I could afford a satellite hookup, all I could get here in the STICKS was dial-up...can't upload anything with that. I do try to be patient with ppl on this, but it ain't easy when I see someone that looks interesting, or who says that they are great, but can't back it up with anything.

I will be one of the first to yell. " PUT YOUR STUFF UP "!
Yet, I was on the bandmix site looking for a band before I posted any music.
As best I can remember I did not attempt to use / converse on the Forum, prior to my having put the band together and have some rudamintry recordings posted.
