Muchas Gracias fret.
I be the first to say I got a long way to go as a guitarist.
But I love the direction our band is working.
The other nite Eric gave me some homework. I was told to listen to some smooth Jaz and work with my ax so I dont "force my leads".
How much respect is that to be so upfront with your bandmates.
"Risin inside Me" was writtten one night at about 1am sitting in my jeep.
Scribbled a few lines on a lumber yard recept. Gave it to the boys that night and in about two minuets we were playin it.
Not bad for two chords if I say so myself.

What does 'forcing your leads' mean?
Does he mean that youre rushing the beat or something?
I like My Sweet the best. A nice little tune that could be really nice with a little polishing.
As far as leads go, if youre are improvising them right now, I say just write them out. Go over the lead break and find notes and phrases that sound good to ya.
Or at least work out an an outline -- Notes, licks or phrases that you know you want in there. Then improvise in between them.
That will give you a grounding, so you avoid those moments when youre scrambling on the fly.
But... dont know what your bandmate means by rushing, so take it with a grain of salt.

We had a long talk about it last night after practice. He wants me to relax and let the leads flow more smoothly from riff to riff. Much as you suggested gt. Instead of trying to "force" licks and riffs into the timing.
I been diggin on some smooth jazz and some Carlos the freakin man Santana.
Most of the leads I have to do at this point are short. Fits well with our style I feel. Lead man does not want the leads on top of the vocals but to be more "guitar lyrics" if you will.
Thanks for the props on My Sweet or is it Oh Sweet hell I cant ever remember. The hard part on that tune for me is to get just the right touch and volume on the chords used as fill. I really like that song.
Some times I get a tear in this ol mans eye when I play it.

George, I think that's excellent advice. You learn the fast stuff from the heavy metal guitarists and the smooth transitions from Salsa, Jazz, and some Classic Blues.

Thanks Andrew. I,ve got to go back to basic for a while to work off some bad habits I've picked up.
Pretty much the story of my life though.
The band is doing ok. We are going to delay our trip to the studio for a while as we have finally come to an agreement on arrangement and know full well we are not prepaired as well as we could be.
Besides we are working on adding Tony back into the mix as a Back up vox.
