"Why? Because it's personally offensive to me when some schmuck cant even name, locate, or otherwise identify the notes on his fretboard, keyboard, or whatever contraption he chooses to employ, but still unashamedly refers to himself as a musician." -well said.

neanderpaul... I couldn't agree more.

I don't read music, I don't write notes on a page, I have no clue about music theory. I am a singer, not a musician. :? :(

call yerself whatever you like... wikipedia calls you a musician.
"A musician is a person who plays or writes music. Musicians can be classified by their roles in creating or performing music:
An instrumentalist plays a musical instrument.
A singer (or vocalist) uses his/her voice as her instrument.
Composers, arrangers and songwriters memorize and orally teach, or record their compositions in the form of traditional notation or audio recording.
A conductor leads a musical ensemble. A conductor can simultaneously act as an instrumentalist in the ensemble."

I consider myself a guitarist. Yet I have written a percentage of the songs our band does, as have all of our members. Yet I feel Eric is the only one whom really qualifies as a musician.
The same way I would not consider a guy with a 0 & 10 win loss record a fighter.
I aspire to be a musician.
By the way, who opened this can o worms? :D

I am a musician. Imagine that! All I know is that I can't NOT sing. If music is on or playing I have to!

The official worm-can opener of bandmix. Our beloved Cpt. Scott.

I think he likes stirring things up. Oh well, some ppl (gawd I love that shorthand) like to make others think outside, inside and around the box.

I've said it before and I'll say it again,
The Capt. does have his flammin' moments (just ask Jimmie D and Mikey G), but he does add a bit of much needed spice to the forum. Plus he digs the music of The Original Mind Melters, so He and I are on some common ground!

I was just talking to my mother. (here we go)

(She has a Masters in Music) (She plays piano etc.)

She insists that the turntable guy cannot scratch in my favorite key, Bb..

Otherwise, I would be willing to concede that the turntable guy is a percussionist, like someone else previously said..
