Was wondering if anyone new how to achieve distortion on my mic while performing live without blowing the sound system to hell???? We are covering Breeder's Cannonball and I want to be able to get the same sound on vocals that they have.

Thanx.

I"m not that knowledgable about PA systems. I would imagine a lot has to do with how loud you want the vocals to be. A better solution in my opinion is to sing the song the way YOU want to sing it and not worry about sounding exactly like the recording. If you sing the song note-for-note AND with the same exact tone or distortion you may as well play the CD over your PA. YOU may end up singing it BETTER than the original. But you'll never know if you try an exact duplication. Later...

You really don't give much info on your set-up Cherry for me to coment on.
We use a PA that our frontman sings through. I has built in effects loop for just such a purpose.
I have been told you can purchase distortion pedals for vox just like for a guitar. Though I must admit I have never seen one.

Try singing through a guitar amp with distortion on...It works for me, not that I have to use it...My vocals are distorted enough XD

Humm, I wonder if it would work through a guitar pedal, like a metal zone?

Yep it works through my rat pedal. The key is to use very little distortion. a little dab'll do ya. For real.

2 bands from my area actually use a megaphone into the mic for that effect and it goes over real well...

My buddy who does our sound is cringing at the prospect of the megaphone..

(I assured him it would only be the regular old CB or nothing.) lol

I am always awed by that Neander dude.... I only wish I lived close by him so I could lay down some lead tracks to his songs  (I actually fool round with them while I listen to 'em)
