Okay, I've been looking for a guitar player for the Flamingo Road Band for about 2 years, off & on.

Our new drummer got us one. We tried him out last night & I think he'll work out just fine. Great guy. Kinda quiet. Looks easy to get along with, & a good player for one who hasn't played the stuff in our style before. He's gonna fit in!

I'm kinda excited again.

My chops have gotten sloppy, I fear. I haven't been playing much with the new grandkid around & all the upheavals going on around here with the wife & the vehicle stuff & trying to get work etc.

I did okay, but I need to get back to playing daily if I'm gonna be in shape for the things we have coming up. There's a huge party on the 27th, & a big gig on the 6th of next month.

I play this party coming up every year. In the past I've played as much as 9 hours straight with nearly every act. Last year it was kinda small, & I hardly played at all, only about 5 or 6 hours. This year it's gonna be huge again, by all indicators. Don't think I could go for more than about 4 hours at this point. My left hand's pretty weak lately. I don't think the operation halped me much. Hurts a lot when I push it, & then it just quits working when it gets all tired out.

Eh...it'll get better or it won't. I just hope it doesn't get worse.

Glad that it's coming together for ya, man...but it sounds like you may have to lay off the...uh, you know...(or at least use the other hand for a while).

Seriously, good for you, Philby, and I know what you mean about the conditioning. I go through phases when I'm not playing my bass much, and when I go back to it, it really takes a while to get back into shape.

Great News Philby!

Wish we knew what to do for your hand?..You had carpal tunnel surgery right?..Ill ask Bobbie (hand therapist , wife of a mando player).I know a dude 72 who had the surgery and he plays upright bass and he gets to hurtin, BUT he dont care, he plays till its absolutely KILLIN him so. He says he heals up fine later on???..Anyway, you know , its those "quiet ones" ya gotta watch...Keep him under close scrutiny for a while

Thanks, guys.

It was ulna nerve surgery that I had, & it didn't help a bit, from what I can tell. Fingers still numb & the hand is weak.

Sounds great Philby, I have to play daily to keep my chops up to my standards. If I miss a couple of days I feel it quickly. You guys that can just play every now and then and function are truelly blessed cause Ive never been able to do it. We have fans that throw beer, whisky, champagne on us when we play and I have to be really on my game to not lose concentration. I dont know how bands like Gwar are able to play in the mayhem that goes on at their shows.

Good Luck with the new guitarist Philby, I hope you guys get some gigs lined up and have a lot of fun.

Its great to see a lot of people on here having their projects coming together.

LOL

I just got off the phone with another act that needs a bass player. They do classic rock, not my usual fare by any means.

I agreed to get together with them at our earliest opportunity, though, & yeah, JW, this time I'll learn my parts before I go...heh heh heh...if they send me a song list, that is. Of course, I'll hafta to do all the songs "my way"

Got an email from a bass player nearby, too. A fem bassist that sings, as well. I have a perfect song for Obama's campaign, if I change the verse lyrics, & I intend to try to get it done this week. I'll need some fem vox on it. (Not that I'm a huge Obamanaut, or anything. I just wanna have someone use my stuff to its maximum potential.) Hope she works out for that, & maybe some other stuff in the works in my headbone, too. MUSICAL stuff, Crip...not da boobies!

How cool to have 2 bass players in an act. What do you think? I've seen 2 drummers, but not doubling dueling basses. I think it might be cool, if the material is rightly written & arranged for it. Just an idear.

If the classic rock band doesn't interest me a lot, maybe I'll just get her to meet up with them. Networking works for everyone at some point.

Funny how stuff just goes in spurts, ain't it?

So far over the last 2 months, I've gotten a new huge dog, a new old truck, a new grandson, a new guitar player for one band, & the possibility of at least two more cool musical projects. Hmmm...methinks the universe is trying to tell me something, but I can't figure out just what it is.

I've been catching fish, too! Got a nice smallmouth yesterday when I went with my son.

Something is definitely out of whack in the world when I catch fish!

Hell, sans, I gave up pushups back in the '60's!

These days my exercize regimen is lifting the sack-o'-taters baby up over my head 50 reps at a stretch, 50 times a day. I'm gonna have Schartzenegger arms by the time he's 3 at this rate!

Then of course the dog wants to wrestle & play tug of war, too.

Ain't no wonder I'm wore out.

Can't wait to get back to work later this week! It'll be a nice relaxing vacation compared to this constant workout.

Damn but I love it all so! That kid is the perfect thing to have right now for all of us, I think. & he's so damned CUTE you could just eat 'im up.

I can't believe it's me talking like this. Does everyone get so gooshy over a grandkid, or am I a wierdo? I feel like a wierdo. I never get gooshy. I think gooshy is for "other ppl." This must stop.

LMAO! I was shopping for a toddler sized life jacket the other day so I can take him out on the canoe when I go fishing!

Somehow, I'm not sure that's my greatest idea ever...
