I was in a classic rock band that featured a female singer. We did get some grief at fist from people, but after a while she was well accepted for singing "Guy" songs. She sand songs like "Wooly Swamp", Dirty Deeds"(not the joan Jett version), A few Rolling Stones tunes...almost 95% of our sets were song by her.

All the songs in our set that I sing are "Bloke" songs apart from "Weak" by Skunk Anansie. It's not an unusual thing over here, lots of females doing it :P

Wonderful Tonight will NEVER be in my bag of tricks. Of all the songs Clapton ever did that is THE LAMEST PIECE OF CRAP BY FAR. He must have been drunk when he recorded it. I'm not usually very critical of songs but when they're really bad I'll admit it.

I'll admit that I played it once, but I felt like such a whore afterward that I had to take 7 scalding showers in a row to get the filthy feel off my skin with a scrub brush.

Congrats Robin, I hope it works out for you. Wedding bands can be fun. I've never been in a wedding band, but have played a few weddings, they can be a blast. Last one I did was the night I tried out my Washburn BT 2 onstage for the first time, guys in the band didn't even know I'd bought it...surprised everybody, but it sounded great.

When Clapton recorded Wonderful Tonight, he was in the middle of a nasty divorce. He said in an interview it was really difficult singing it, when he really wanted to growl and yell at her. Not easy to sing a love song when you just want to get the hell away from that person and getting away is getting ugly...I think the song itself is basically just another love song, not impressive, but I love the guitar. Simple, melodic and a great sound, probably his old black strat. What sucks to me is every guitar player I've ever heard try to cover it tries to use a distortion pedal...HUH??? it's a clean Strat, probably the neck pickup. That's how I do it and I peg that sound every time.

All I can add about Wonderful Tonight is that i wish I wrote it and was getting all the royalties. To me its an easy ass song that keeps people dancing.

To each his own at the end of the night I want audiences to like us. In my area its a standard just like Mustang Sally, Sweet Home Alabama, Old Time Rock N Roll. Our band plays these songs when needed to keep a gig flowing. I dont understand dissing a sure song.

With you guys attitude I dont see how you get any gigs at all, but then maybe you dont want em anyway.

Sorry Pete I ussually use distortion, I do roll off the volume some from my normal setting, But I play it with distortion.

'wonderful tonight' is probably one of the biggest buzzkill songs ever written. I'm not even sure what it's about, but the music and vocal ranges are so damn oppressively depressing (lack of a better term) that it's no wonder it's the song that gets played when you want people to leave at the end of the night. Right up there with 'house of the rising sun' as far as songs to play if you want people to leave lol.

Just my opinion though...
