Hi Fitna, welcome to the boards-

Thanks for the support.

Regarding the instruments, I really think this is one of the KEY problems with bandmix. Sure, I want to know if a vocalist has keyoard skills, and I want to know if a guitarist has vocal skills. But when people list 900 instruments, it's impossible to tell which one is their 'MAIN'. I've been looking for a bass player, and have contacted SO MANY who come back "oh.. I'm a lead guitarist, not a bassist, I just know how to play bass"...

Well why can't they not only split up the primary and secondary instruments, BUT ALSO include "skill level" on each one? I want to know if a guy who plays bass as his primary has only been playing a year, but has 10 years on the guitar, his 'secondary' instrument. I've run into many situations where people just switch (usually because they can't find a band) and then once in the band , they turn on you and want to play a different instrument. There's a thousand cases of idiocy that could be rooted out by FORCING musicians to completely fill out their online "resume".

Could you imagine if job applications were this vague?

And BMIX-
Thanks for chiming in on this, I know you guys have been touting plans of "great change" for a while now, but from the vague description you gave, it sounds like these (planned) changes are going to be insufficient to what is actually needed. I cannot implore you enough to consider the "needs" of bands and musicians to have a comprehensive set of tools to pinpoint exactly what they are looking for and need. I think most of the ideas in this thread are absolutely necessary for this site to succeed, and excel over other similar sites.

There's been probably a dozen other 'musician matchmaker' sites pop up in the last year, and the only reason any of them haven't spanked you yet is simply because they all are greedy. If ONE of those sites switches to a free format and gets a leg up, this site will probably fail. I know that sounds harsh, but again.. I WANT so badly for this site to succeed, and I fear that the changes are too few and too slow.

I don't think your getting anyones attention,

look at the response from bmix - hey we are working on a backend update that will provide really cool features like the instrument section, yet no comment on the fact that the format is not working.

despite now having two members I wish to contact I've decided to not renew my membership to contact them as the £5 per month charge in the UK is too much for what is in essence a gamble on even getting a response back.

Another site in the UK formingbands.co.uk has recently last 6 months or so moved from being a %100 free service to a paid service, and has however not lost a lot of members and the number of new members signing up for the paid service is very low.

I used to get 7 - 10 contacts per month easy, more often not, now I'm getting 1 if I'm lucky and it's all down to falling numbers due to paid services in my opinion, and the members that are there don't want to pay.

Only my view

#1 problem with Bandmix is that you have to pay to contact people. Period. Fix that flaw and this will be the best site on the net for musicians (because it has the best look and feel, active forums, etc.)

As it is, I'd rather use Craigslist or MusicianForest. I don't have to pay to contact musicians, which is the whole point of a site like this.

I suspect that the number 2 problem is that most people here are more fans than they are musicians, anyway . . .

Hey, Bandmix people. I want to describe a feature I'd like to see on web pages, and I'd like you to implement it.

I have trouble keeping my time zones straight. It would be nice to have a clock on the page, and if the clock on the page showed a different time than the clock on my computer, I could click on a "+" button or a "-" button to adjust properly. That way, I would know how long ago other posts were submitted, etc.

That is a good idea. Consider that a second. All in favor.

Who's a fan again? STFU and play your camptown races over again.

You trying to tell people what they think? Be careful or you'll get a face full of slap.
