Hi Fitna, welcome to the boards-
Thanks for the support.
Regarding the instruments, I really think this is one of the KEY problems with bandmix. Sure, I want to know if a vocalist has keyoard skills, and I want to know if a guitarist has vocal skills. But when people list 900 instruments, it's impossible to tell which one is their 'MAIN'. I've been looking for a bass player, and have contacted SO MANY who come back "oh.. I'm a lead guitarist, not a bassist, I just know how to play bass"...
Well why can't they not only split up the primary and secondary instruments, BUT ALSO include "skill level" on each one? I want to know if a guy who plays bass as his primary has only been playing a year, but has 10 years on the guitar, his 'secondary' instrument. I've run into many situations where people just switch (usually because they can't find a band) and then once in the band , they turn on you and want to play a different instrument. There's a thousand cases of idiocy that could be rooted out by FORCING musicians to completely fill out their online "resume".
Could you imagine if job applications were this vague?
And BMIX-
Thanks for chiming in on this, I know you guys have been touting plans of "great change" for a while now, but from the vague description you gave, it sounds like these (planned) changes are going to be insufficient to what is actually needed. I cannot implore you enough to consider the "needs" of bands and musicians to have a comprehensive set of tools to pinpoint exactly what they are looking for and need. I think most of the ideas in this thread are absolutely necessary for this site to succeed, and excel over other similar sites.
There's been probably a dozen other 'musician matchmaker' sites pop up in the last year, and the only reason any of them haven't spanked you yet is simply because they all are greedy. If ONE of those sites switches to a free format and gets a leg up, this site will probably fail. I know that sounds harsh, but again.. I WANT so badly for this site to succeed, and I fear that the changes are too few and too slow.
Thanks for the support.
