No. I have a few friends outside my Band and my Kung Fu brothers. It's amazing how close you can get to people you sweat and bleed on for years. I would do anything for them. And they for me. I work six to seven days a week as does my wife. We have four children two grand children. My Mother and Father are local. As is my Mother in law. My Father in law passed on a few years ago. My wifes family and friends like family is fairly extensive and close knit.
My sons are here with us at 12 & 13. George my eldist plays defensive end in the 8th grade and is in his third year of Orchestra on the Violin.
Bryn my yougest plays tennis and the trumpet. When we have days off we like to get out as a family and get away from people. We hunt, fish, camp, maybe hike a Civil War Historical Park. Family and out of doors oriented people are we. When we do socalise we generally drink beer and burn some poor animal on the grill.
How about you?

I'd like to restrict this thread to subjects we know first-hand. Not interested in debating politics or religion, or any other contentious topic. I want to talk about what we see, do, imagine, endure, etc. Stuff like that.

Rick, I understand your not being interested in politics. This long, drawn out political campaign has worn me out, BUT you have to admit this Sarah Palin character is very intriguing, kind of like a female version of John Wayne. I think she can go to Washington and do some serious ass-kicking. Unfortunately right now I can't think of too many interesting things to say. We recently added a kick butt lead guitarist. Hopefully we'll get to the studio sometime soon and record a killer CD. Now THAT would be interesting. If I can think of anything else interesting I'll chime back in...

The only contact I have with people is at work. My kids have all left the nest, my youngest, just this year, to live on campus at IU. My wife is my best (and only) friend, but we've been separated for more than two years. I think we're going to get divorced.
I love to play guitar, and my strongest musical talent is chord structure. All that means, really, is that I can learn songs quickly and play a lot of unusual chords. I can sing pretty good, but not great. I'll never be any better than really good at being pretty good.
I write, but slowly. Lyrics don't come easily. I'm no poet, in other words. I can write melodies and accompaniments in my sleep, but stammer and go blank when it comes to words.
I've become more myself since my wife and I separated, and I like who I am. I have a strong desire to talk about stuff that people never talk about. Most people don't seem to have any interest in that. I can expand on that, if you like. But I won't belabor it now.
What else?
I'm pretty sloppy and tend to hang onto stuff I don't need and will never use. I used to be into photography and know a lot about it - both practically and theoretically. Never went to college. Like to figure stuff out on my own. Was deep into Excel for a few years.
I just now decided not to broach a subject that came to mind. It may not be appropriate for an internet forum. It's one of those bare-naked admissions that I'm sure I'm not the only one who thinks about. So we'll save that for another day, assuming we ever get to that point.
Okay. That's enough. Now what?

Thanks for sharing Rick. And I'm not being an ass. I mean it.
Jeanette and I were seperated for a year due in most part to my misbehaviors. I also found out during that time that I am Hypothyroid.
It made me mean as hell. I take my meds regular now and its better.
After twenty five or so years we kind of changed as people but soon discovered that we still love each other. She is my best friend.
I started working at 13. Shoveled horse crap on a stud farm for a buck twentyfive an hour. Then to a Bus Station / Western Union the owners husband did oilfield contract work. I worked for him in the summers. Was driving dump trucks at 17 and no CDL. Worked on workover rigs and offshore out of high school. A degree in Oil and Gas Technology. 10 years with Mobil Oil, laid off in 92. Rode a F'n bicycle to get into nursing school as the bank got my truck, but not my house. 14 years of nursing and now may be going back to ExxonMobil. Jeanette is an RN as well. She went when I finished. My eldest daughter is an RN and wants to be an MD.
Songs come to me when I am angry or dog tired and depressed. Sometimes in my sleep, but I struggle to get my music from my head to my fingers.
It has been a pleasure to have a decent conversation with you Rick.
My wife is on call and sick to boot so I am going to convince her to turn in early.
God Bless
Latter.

Broccoli is actually one of the very best foods you can consume. It's full of vitamins and minerals and is known as a cancer-fighting food. I don't believe everything we eat is broccoli, if it were everybody would be a lot healthier than we are. Here's some other extremely healthy foods everybody should eat: garlic, onions, blueberries, cranberries, salmon, sardines, soy-based foods, olive and flax seed oil, green tea. I had very bad health problems a few years ago which the standard medical doctors couldn't solve. I went instead to a naturopathic doctor who prescribed diet and herbal remedies instead of presrciption drugs and surgery. This has made a huge difference in the quality of my life. Now, isn't THAT interesting?
