hellow ,remember if you learn your circle of fifths and your major and minor scale patterns you will find that this simple theory will get you where you want to be, you will find the chord structures in the scales, this will also help with your guitar solos giving you other options ,try to use simple triads to solo over a vamp , triad (root, third, fifth) two whole steps between root and third will spell a major chord ,step and a half will spell minor, spell out the chords in your major scale pattern, major scale pattern (whole step whole step half step whole step whole step whole step half step) EX. C MAJOR CDEFGABC ,LOOK AT THE SCALE IN THIRDS FROM EACH NOTE (CEGB) CMAJOR 7 (DFAC) D MINOR 7 ECT , HAVE FUN KEEP JAMMIN , IF THIS WAS STUFF YOU ALREADY KNEW , I WASN`T TRYING TO INSULT YOU , LATER

Hey, concerning the original post ("What do I call this chord?") . . .

That chord is now in a song which will be going out for copyright, shortly.
It's called "The 4th Emotion," and it's a different kind of song than any song-classification listed under 'styles played' in this site.
The song incorporates a few blues chords, a few jazz chords, and a few Classical-Guitar chords. (Purists: forgive me for wording it that way, ok?)
I'll post it sometime in the future.
What's holdin me up is one last song I want to include with this current group (of 10 songs). The song is finished, but I want to 'tweak' it for another week or 2.

Yeah, if you play a regular E add 9 (open), it almost sounds the same.
ALmost - but the 'feel' of it is different . . .

A regular E add 9 (open), fits musically, but it changes the overall effect.
Hard to describe. You can tell they're almost the same, but there are subtle differences.
Lately, I've come to highly appreciate those subtle differences . . .
.
By the way - the 2nd chord of the song is an F4# sus7. :)
.
Thanks for the site.

Hey, JR,
OK, again, the original chord:
0-11-9-11-0-0
.
You say:
0-2-2-0-0-2 (Eminor add9)? Minor, huh? Now, THAT's some interesting input . . .
.
I tried Em add 9 - it doesn't quite seen the same as E add9. (Yeah, well - of course - major/minor . . .) I guess what I mean is that it doesn't fit the song as well.
.
If you play Emajor add 9
0-2-2-1-0-2, the "1" on the 3rd string is the same note as the "A" string in
0-11-9-11-0-0. Same note.
But - there are other notes . . . .
Theoretically - I don't know enough about it. I admit it. :( Maybe it IS an Em add 9 . . .

But, by listening to it, I like the 'Emajor add 9' WAY more than the Eminor add 9.

But - it's almost as if the original chord (0-11-9-11-0-0) has elements of the major and minor at the same time.
.
WEIRD chord. But - I like it. It has it's own emotion attached to it, especially if you follow it with the right chord . . .
But, after this discussion - I don't feel so bad about asking about the chord in the first place!
WEIRD chord. Now I remember why I play music by ear. :P
.
Thanks for your insight, man. You made me pick up my guitar and try stuff. :)
.
I wonder if anyone else tried it? :)
Later.

Well, I think it is still an E9, just a different "Inversion".

Anyway, It's pretty. Close to something I've used in a few songs, with one note difference. I'm gonna use it!!! Thanks. LOL

C.M.
Yeah, it IS a pretty chord, huh.
I liked reading, "Close to something I've used . . . I'm gonna use it . . ."
Key word: 'close'
Yeah, I know exactly what you mean.
You've developed a finer ear, and now it's that TINY difference that can make ALL the difference, huh? :)
I'm glad you'll be using it. Others will hear, and maybe pick up on the fact that it's a good thing to use completely different chords once in a while.
Music is for sharing, after all . . .

Re: software - I've been using several web sites that do the same.
I'm always leary of freeware, but maybe I'll download it . . .
Thanks for your input.

Thanks.
I just today mailed out 11 more songs for copyright, including the one with that chord.
The name of the song is "The 4th Emotion," and I'll post it when I get something back from the Library of Congress.
I owe it to everyone. :)
Thanks.

To all my old friends / associates who responded to this thread:
I just got the copyright back on the song in question, "The 4th Emotion," yesterday.
As promised, I went to put it on my profile.
But - I just posted a new song yesterday. I had 2 posted.
I deleted one of them to make room for this new song, and - guess what?
The average song is over 3 MB long, and they only allow you 5 MB here.
Crap!
I don't want to erase the song i posted yesterday - I'll let it sit for a few days.
But, if you go to to http://www.unitingbands.com/member/Alan/ you can hear the song right now.
Thanks.
